Sen. Ted Cruz stood on a stage straddling the lanes of a dragway at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, speaking directly to blue-collar workers with “calluses on your hands” and railing against the political establishment — prompting cheers and stomps on the metal bleachers.
Meanwhile in Florida, a group of volunteers, including wealthy donors who supported Jeb Bush’s candidacy, were knocking on doors this weekend in Jacksonville asking voters to cast ballots for Cruz (R-Tex.) in Tuesday’s primary.
As Cruz hopes to land a knockout blow against Sen. Marco Rubio in Florida and narrow the primary to a two-man race between himself and Donald Trump, he is increasingly trying to appeal to two very different groups: working-class voters who may find themselves drawn to Trump, and voters from the traditional political establishment who want to stop him.

“Had Cruz realized that conservatism is not a clearly articulated set of principles that must be imposed on a recalcitrant mass, but is instead the systematized expression of the yearning of individuals and peoples, as flawed and imperfect as they are, he might have been born aloft by the wave that is now carrying Donald Trump to the White House. As a former small engine mechanic let me say, horny-handed sons of toil are expert BS detectors.
People don’t seem to see a big picture developing. It seems the only place anyone can stop Trump is Kasich in Ohio. I think all the campaigns see that. Trump’s visit and change of plans to go to Ohio because he sees an opening. Chicago helped Trump. At the macro level where Yougov has Trump at 53. A high ceiling, LOL. And here in the caucus on a micro level where Trump is now over 80%.
Who would have ever thought that someone who renounced up his Canadian citizenship, or any other foreign citizenship, would ever be considered as a potential President?
Chris Christie has endorsed Trump. Many FReepers used to consider Christie part of the GOP establishment ...
