so my horse has to be taught to use the bathroom now/>
The vegetarian beef patties are.
Another power grab!!!
However did our ancestors conquer and settle the west? Buffalo patties, anyone? Sheesh. These city folk haven’t a clue. Actually, as I type this, I realize they do. It’s just another small step toward their goal of food dependence.
Will this be called the “No ****, Sherlock” initiative?
Don’t take manure until the FDA decides it’s safe.
My brother is a sheep farmer in Minnesota, He can only spread manure on his fields once every 2 years or face a huge fine. The GOV. checks how many sheep he has and land acreage. He had to buy another farm just for spreading manure.
Total BS, more Idiot regulations.
Unfortunate headline. Are they going to add to the pile?
“Aw Crap! Not this s*it again!” photo comes to mind.
the problem with horse manure in the garden is you are really planting grass.
***But the agency is skeptical of the safety of the practice. ***
Just what I want to see! An FDA agent following each bird, deer, elk, moose, cow, horse, rat and racoon to scoop up it’s poop!
Oh well, they will look upon it as job security!
This could be the end for Mr Irving’s organic prunes!!!
‘This is the only kind I eat, though. All the rest are poison.”
What a lot of BS!
As usual, the FDA is full of manure.
They should not put any more restrictions or regulations on this practice. We can be treated as adults and trusted to wash any manure off our produce before eating it. Anyone too stupid to think, who just sits there with a manure-eating grin while chewing unwashed food, deserves whatever happens.
Manure must compost for about 3 months before it is applied. Farmers who use manure from their own livestock know that the planting beds need to be prepared in the fall. The manure can be spread thinly on top then, and in spring tilled into the soil after the bad bacteria has cooked off.
Smaller vegetable gardeners should know to add manure to the compost pile along with grass clippings, leaves, food scraps. But again, about 3 months with regular turning makes it safe.
I once purchased bags marked “manure compost” (produced in Hope, Arkansas!) intending to till it into my seedbeds immediately before planting. Having gotten a late start on bed preparation, I figured I’d take a shortcut with the storebought stuff, rather than doing my own composting.
The first bag opened revealed gooey, stinky, fresh poop. It was not COMPOSTED—which normally takes about 3 months. This is the key.
That stuff was poison and went right back to the store.
The danger is when a “newbie” gardener doesn’t know sh!t.
Long story short, the FDA doesn’t need to conduct any studies, or harass small farmers. The Ag Department should just do a better job of inspecting commercial retailers of “manure compost” while educating new farmers and gardeners about commonly known safe practices.
County Ag extensions do a pretty good job of this—assuming people make the effort to contact them.
It’s Big Brother and his Thought Police insinuating their tentacles into EVERY area of EVERY American’s life to make us slaves.
A representative will be online to talk with you in mere moments.
Please stay on the line.
But be VERY careful WHERE!
I love the smell of manure in the morning. It smells like . . . VICTORY!
Nanny State PING!
