The purpose of a VAT tax, as opposed to an ordinary national sales tax, is to hide the tax inside the cost of goods so that the public blames evil companies for raising their prices instead of the government raising taxes.

Yes, I know... I did not think I needed to add a sarcasm tag... It is beyond my ability to comprehend how a VAT tax is considered conservative in any way, shape, fashion, or form... But Ted Cruz advocates a VAT tax. And some people stupidly call him conservative.
