Emotions ran deep as a clearly nervous mother, Lucía Quiej, stood in the audience and told both candidates her story: Her husband had been deported back to Guatemala three years ago, leaving her in the United States to care for their five children.
"What would you do to stop deportations and unite families?" Quiej, a resident of Homestead, 30 miles south of Miami, asked, in Spanish. Her husband, Andrés Jiménez, also a Guatemalan immigrant, was deported because he was stopped for a traffic violation and did not have a drivers license.
The candidates onstage at the Univision/Washington Post Democratic presidential primary debate at Miami Dade College in Miami, were moved to promise their help.
Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, who got the woman's plight a little backwards (the translation seemed difficult to hear) and thought the mother had been separated from her children, said: "At the heart of my immigration policy, the essence of what we are trying to do is to unite families, not to divide families. The idea that a mother is living here and her children are on the other side of the border is wrong and immoral."
Clinton responded with praise and promises, too. "Please know how brave I think you are, coming here with your children to tell your story," she said, summing up the situation correctly. "Ive heard stories like yours where your husband is deported, your children's father is gone, you are doing your very best... But it is time to bring families together."
Clinton matched Sanders' resounding crescendo in the end, saying: "I will absolutely protect your children, yourself, and try to bring your family back together."

I've got a better idea: deport the illegal alien wife.
I would tell Senora Quiej that no one is keeping her from ‘uniting’ her family with the 5 little anchor babies. She can trot her ass back to Guatemala and be ‘reunited’ with hubby. The kids can come back on their own dime when they’re 18.
They all should have been sent back. There was no need to break up the family. That was the family’s choice.
In illegal alien who chooses not to learn English, or abide by the law asked Sanders and Clinton what they would do...
Fixed it.
Send her home to be with her husband because she isn’t abiding by the law, either.
Sanders and Clinton had a swordfight over who would stop deporting anyone. It was hard to watch. They both PROMISED not to deport any children nor any adults who hadn’t committed felonies. Next it will be, keep everyone unless they’ve committed a capital crime.
Mexicans, head for the border now.
Shameful. When are they gonna help Americans?
Totally in agreement with deporting the whole bunch. They are here illegally. Why is there a question? Except in the mind of certain Democrats,of course.
And her 5 children.
Sadly,Americans are going to have to help themselves.
These politicians are sowing the seeds of the next civil war.
I’m touched...sniff, sniff. They convinced me...we don’t need no stinkin’ borders. Let ‘em all in!
Her husband, Andrés Jiménez, also a Guatemalan immigrant, was deported because he was stopped for a traffic violation and did not have a drivers license.

NO
He was deported because he was in our country ILLEGALLY...
she didn’t say they were born here and even if they were the kids are not Americans.
How does she afford 5 kids? Don’t tell me we are paying for them????
Understand. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt. Regardless, I believe if the parents are illegal, the children are too.
Exigent circumstances such as ‘children’ is NOT automatic dispensation for violating the law and consequences thereof. That is what CPS is for. Screw her and her illegal husband. Go back to Guatemala.
Of course we’re the ones paying.Who else has the money.
I wonder how many benefits she’s receiving??
No matter what immigration plan they come up with non-citizens should not be getting government benefits.
I’d let her work her way to earn the cost of six one way fares to “unite” her family where it belongs. End of story.
The Rise of the Panderers
Sanders and Clinton are going to help this poor individual also
