It is why I went off him too and switched my vote to Trump.
He had such a great future, but his colors started to show about two weeks ago and since then he really is in bed with the very establishment he first went against.

Reagan's “protectionism” came at time when the Japanese were dumping into our economy. The same does not hold true now because we have firmly given up our industrial might for cheaper goods.
In the 1980’s we were still making TVs and electronic components here and the weaker Yen made it easy for the Japanese to simply saturate the market. Reagan was working to protect an industry that was under attack, but not dead. Of course in the longer run into the 1990s that failed.
Fast forward to 2002 when Bush tried the same thing with steel against the Russians and Turks. It failed because the US steel industry was already near death, National Steel, LTV, Bethlehem Steel were all put under because the tariffs helped killed whatever chance they had for survival (plus union labor demands).
We don't compete with China for manufacturing anymore because it's all over there. What are tariffs going to do now, protect the cheap Barbie doll plastic toy manufacturers? They don't exist.
You tariff China now you simply stop goods from coming into the US. If you think factories are going to miraculously pop up in the Midwest to make t-shirts and duffel bags you are lost.
Facts suck, I know Trump supports don't care for them but they they are.
