Republican elites are begrudgingly embracing Ted Cruz—and hanging Marco Rubio out to dry.
Panicked at Donald Trump’s dominance and dismayed by Rubio’s continued inability to do anything about it, some top Republican power brokers are turning to Cruz, putting aside their policy and personal misgivings to back the candidate they now openly label as their best hope to stop Trump’s GOP takeover.
“He seems to be the only guy who’s got some momentum, and is probably the best situated if there is anybody out there to beat Trump,” said Austin Barbour, a prominent Mississippi-based GOP operative. “That’s why there are many people like me—Ted Cruz wouldn’t have been our first choice, but as we go through the process, we’re reevaluating our vote, and he seems to be the guy at the top of the list.”
“Most people now think Ted’s the best vehicle to defeat Trump,” said Charles C. Foster, a Bush family loyalist from Houston who served on Jeb Bush’s national finance team. “I would say some are enthusiastic for Ted, some are just saying, ‘OK, Ted’s not my first choice, but anyone that can beat Trump, I’ll support.’”

They’re in for a surprise if they’re successful.
Why don’t they just cut through the chase, save millions of dollars and endorse hillary? Their bosses have.
Who is the best to beat Hillary?
Why do the head-to-head pols show Cruz stronger against Hillary than Trump is then? Or are they all wrong too?
The Republican Party would rather have a conservative who will win than a liberal fraud who will lose.
There’s hope for the GOP yet.

Forget ALL about defeating Hillary ... just stop TRUMP!
The Trumpkins just love the polls that favor their precious perfidious Donald but are in deep denial when they con’t.
But then just being Trumpkins shows they weren’t very bright to begin with.
If the GOPe seriously dislikes Trump and sees him as a sure loser for the party as a whole in November, they have only one good option, its Cruz or lose.
To rig the convention against Trump after he wins the caucuses and primaries would be a worse disaster.
Rubio needs to get out and Kasich, too.
They both need to endorse Ted so Cruz can make a run at Trump in Ohio and Florida, cause if Trump wins those winner take all states next week, I see Trump as rolling on to win the process.

As I recall, all you Cruz people aren't doing too well in the predictions department. You'd think all that smart would lead to anticipating outcomes a bit better.

Its not interested in winning.
All the effort and money to defeat Trump is not being saved to defeat Hillary.
The party leadership has its priorities.
Actually, the establishment hates Cruz too. They support him now, and if he wins the primary, the donor class leaves him out to dry. No funding. Not to mention they’ve already undermined his eligibility claim.
That’s how they think. They’re in a better position to sabotage Cruz than Trump.
It says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in that article about Cruz prosecuting Hillary. Not. One. Word.
