Christianity Today's chief editor Mark Galli has issued embarrassed apologies for a classified ad appearing in his publication's March edition that was placed by a parent soliciting a son-in-law for a "godly, gorgeous, athletic, educated, careered, humorous, traveled, bilingual" virgin daughter. Ostensibly, the winning candidate, "unworthy but becoming less so daily," would fill an elder position at a Chicago-area church. Galli, speaking for the staff of the genteel Wheaton, Ill.-based evangelical magazine, acknowledged that the Marketplace section ad was "demeaning and in poor taste."

Bilingual is a bit too demanding.

That ad is only slightly less creepy than those father-daughter “purity balls”

Bilingual in the Chicago area??? Does Ebonics count?
To: DFG
You shouldn’t barter your daughter in that manner. This is teh 21st century, your daughter should sell herself She should be using modern business techniques like lease with option to buy, and showing the wares off a bit more. Get with the program, people.

Wow, imagine the nerve of some folks, trying to find a decent mate for such a seriously flawed woman.
How dare they!
/s
The complainers have way too much time on their hands.
Where better to look for a mate for her than in a Christian publication?
What is the problem?

Whatever happened to letting a daughter grow up and fine her own mate? This is the the type of helicopter parenting that is one step away from an arranged marriage.

There were a lot fewer ‘Christian’ divorces when more marriages were arranged.

It’s your take the daughter would have no say in this?
Where did you come up with that?

Maybe the daughter is okay with it. She may not want to be the initiator, and wants the protection of her father. She may be looking for a rarefied subgroup that isn't available in her community. At 26, if she doesn't want "helicopter parenting" she need not accept it.

In a country where prostitution is now favored, an arranged marriage of virgins is shocking.

Letting daughters “find their own mate” often leads to her and her children coming home to share your retirement. Surely you know someone like that.
To: DFG
Apparently this is her. Her blog "The Rachel Memoir" is currently invite-only but the pic can be found via Google image search:
Quite a lovely lass.

Christians should bring back matchmakers like the Jewish population uses, to help find quality matches for mates, not searching databases for dates.

As a Christian dad I can find some agreement with this. We’ve got two adult daughters. The oldest sounds much like this girl. I don’t think a guy has ever even asked her out.
It’s a sad commentary on the young men of today.

If she’s an unmarried Christian girl (not a CINO), virgin goes without saying in most cases.

There is a movement where fathers rule their daughters lives until the father finds a husband for her. Then he probably runs both of their lives.
