Just Who Are 'Trump's Evangelicals'? Debates whether conservative Christians should support Donald Trump's presidential bid have revived a more long-term question: Who 'counts' as an evangelical, anyway?' By Molly Jackson, Staff MARCH 6, 2016
Donald Trump has not yet given voters a nuanced view of his understanding of Christian communion: The professed Presbyterian referred to the sacramental bread as "my little cracker" during a meeting with conservative Christian leaders last year; more recently, he tried to put money in an Iowa church's communion plate ahead of the state caucus.
But if the unconventional GOP candidate has a tendency to overlook religious subtleties, he's in good company.
As Mr. Trump has solidified his lead in the GOP, some of the most appalled people left in his wake are evangelical Christian leaders perplexed at how a man like Trump is drawing support from their flocks.
Recommended: What do you know about Donald Trump? An equally confused army of secular pundits has attempted to answer that question, now one of the campaign's most defining conundrums, with a range of possible answers: He's got messianic appeal. The rank-and-file is fed up with the GOP. They feel besieged. He's running a country, not a church. They're "getting too worldly, letting anger and frustration control them," as the head of a Focus on the Family affiliate told the Associated Press.
But as evangelical leaders continue their soul-searching or endorse Trump outright, as Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. did in January religion scholars on all sides of the faith spectrum are criticizing the media's use of the word "evangelical" itself, a deceptively simple label that obscures the complexity of American Christianity.

Just type the word ffs.
I support Trump and I am an evangelical.
Who really cares and it is irrelevant. I know I don’t care who Cruz’s are.
We aren’t electing a Pastor or the Pope.
>Who ‘counts’ as an evangelical, anyway?
Exactly and why would they be a better “judge” of President than Joe Schome?
If you want to get to Heaven, you better raise some Hell ...

I don’t not support Trump because I am an Christian.
I am proud to share the ‘Good News’ of a Savior, Jesus the Christ, therefore I am an evangelical. That being siad, what about Crus? What about the Christian cult where he belongs?
1- Although some sources state that Cruz’s father is a pastor of a church in Dallas, other sources say that he is not the pastor of any church. However, his father is associated with Larry hutch pastor of New Beginnings Church that has an odd belief in celebrating Shabbat, Biblical Holidays and the importance of restoring the biblical symbols of faith including the Tallit and the mezuzah. Also, this pastor has dubious theology http://www.patheos.com/.../rick-joyner-larry-huch-and.../

Well these trump evangelicals shouldn’t whine when he betrays them as he’s a businessman who makes deals and not pastor like.
Well, I love Jesus and the Jews, so I guess I'll have to support Kasich or Rubio.
Surely there's plenty of evangelical voters who have seen their jobs evaporate. They gotta eat too!
What the hell is an “EVANGE$LICAL” Where did this pejorative come from? I want CHRISTIAN!! I don’t want “evangelical”. I have no idea what that is!! I am offended!! I want the believers in the atonement for our sins, JESUS CHRIST. I am a CHRISTIAN. Stop this “evangelical” crap! NOW!!
Trump says he has no reason to ask for atonement.
“Trump says he has no reason to ask for atonement.”
Trump gives every indication of someone who has not yet had the grace to understand. Oily Felito on the other hand knows very well, and yet feigns prayers, insinuates that those who do not support him are not Christians, sends out terror propaganda about ‘violations’, and stands in prayer with a Christ denying cultist who fantasizes about stabbing his political enemies. These men are responsible not only for how they act, but what they know.
At least he was willing to give.
I'm voting for a President not a Pastor.
We arent electing a Pastor or the Pope.”
Exactly right. That is what I have been thinking. Just because Obungo was the messiah doesn’t mean we should try to emulate him.
Didn’t I read here that Trump is getting all of the fake “evangelicals” while Cruz is getting all the True ones?
I support Trump and I am an real evangelical. Your statement is offensive, but I forgive you :)
