I have English friends - mostly born after WWII - who excoriate Bomber Harris. They don’t even understand how they wouldn’t be here without our ancestors strength of character and willingness to defy decorum and fight ugly to preserve western civilization.
I once told an Australian woman who denigrated US contributions in WW2: "The US is the reason why you are not a sex slave in a Japanese brothel. You're welcome."
Indeed, and that wrong has been righted.
There is now a Bomber Command memorial because the UK has come to grips with Bomber Command and Harris. The Bomber Command memorial is in Green Park, along Piccadilly, just across the street from the Royal Air Force Club at 128 Piccadilly.
I’ve visited the memorial and it is a moving experience, and the RAF Club has memorabilia from Bomber Command.
