Trump speech roils CPAC

Marco Rubio's supporters protest appearance by the GOP front-runner, who has donated more than $100,000 to the event's host.

Donald Trump’s speaking slot at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday is prompting an acrimonious backlash from the conservative critics desperately trying to mount a last-ditch campaign to block the GOP presidential front-runner from winning the party’s nomination.

A top aide to Trump rival Marco Rubio has accused CPAC organizers of being in the tank for Trump and clearing the way for his acceptance into mainstream conservatism, while an anti-Trump super PAC is pressuring organizers to rescind their invitation to the surging GOP front-runner. Potentially complicating matters further, sources tell POLITICO that Trump has made multiple donations totaling more than $100,000 ― including a $50,000 check last year ― to the American Conservative Union, the group that organizes CPAC. That dwarfs the amounts donated in recent years by allies of Trump’s rivals, all of whom are also scheduled to speak at the annual gathering, and seems likely to fuel already percolating suspicions among his opponents that the ACU has its thumb on the scale for Trump.

Even by the standards of CPAC, which over the decades has been in the middle of more than its share of contentious fights about the future of the conservative movement, the one brewing around this year’s gathering is shaping up as historic ― and historically nasty.

Rubio is like a pet Yorkie, nipping at his ankles. Trump needs to remain calm, and expose Rubio for who he is.

My wish is that after he’s elected president, that Donald Trump sets a course to completely dismantle the Republican Party as constituted today, including dismissing Rancid Penis and his merry band from party HQ, coupled with a serious effort to unseat and replace nearly every sitting GOP member of Congress! Because if he doesn’t behead the snake that is the GOP, it will return to take over again.

This Politico story is about smearing TRUMP, not about Rubio bitching over time spots.

This is a set-up to push the meme that TRUMP “buys” support.

You can't see them, they're under the foam.

Absolutely correct. Rubio is an inconsequential anchor baby whose positive factors are nonexistent. He couldn’t be voted in as dogcatcher in Florida.

Of course Trump should be allowed to speak. And the rest of us should be allowed to form our own opinion about what he says. Speaking can work for you, or work against you.

My advice to everyone is to not take anyone’s side, take the side of ideas. Perhaps my first standard is - no double standards. I think big government (through spending or regulation) leads to “crony capitalism” (more correctly crony socialism). With these, and other beliefs, I can rate the politician, which I think is better than getting my direction from the politician.

That’s what I’m thinking.

I just watched our Governor Haslam and Lamar Alexander and other TN republicans endorse Rubio prior to Super Tuesday. Only to have the base ignore them and vote for Trump.

The amount of political pressure the GOPe is trying to bring to bear on this election is unreal. I just wonder what the GOPe threatened them with to have them all suddenly endorse Rubot.

Having 2 Yorkie boys myself, I agree. They are fiercely loyal and they know where to do their business.

Mitt is no Yorkie.

Are these supporters of the same Mr. Rubio who initially REFUSED to speak at CPAC?

That Mr. Rubio?

>>>Why was trump even asked to speak?<<<

Is that a trick question?

Hmm, why would CPAC have the Republican Party Frontrunner for the Office of POTUS speak at their Convention?

Wow, that’s a tough one.

I hope you just forgot the Sarc tag, but I have my doubts.
