With Newt Gingrich accusing Mitt Romney this week of bankrupting companies during his time at Bain Capital, Romneys wildly lucrative business career continues to draw fire from opponents who seek to paint him as a heartless financier.
So did Romney wreck companies as Gingrich says he did?
Under Romneys leadership at Bain, which spanned from 1984 to 1990 and from 1992 to 1999, at least five companies eventually filed for bankruptcy after being acquired by the private equity firm.

And there ya go..
I used to have something about when Romney walked away from Bain...it was untimely and a surprise to the other owners etc or something...
unethical etc...
he did it suddenly and hadn’t told the others he left them up in the air...hurt the company...
Mittens = GOPe Hypocrite.
Romney’s group simply were thugs-in-the-night who walked in and took what assets were left, and left the shell of a company on the ground. They never had any idea on how to really make use of the companies that they were screwing over.
So you’re saying Romney is similar to Trump...
I agree... they are both losers when Republicans get to choose the nominee. Trump is 0-3 in primary states that are closed to Republicans.
No candidate who supports socialized medicine will beat the Democrats. No one who supports Planned Parenthood will get out the base.
OHMYGOSH!!! Romney had BANKRUPTIES and nobody cared???!!!!
Romney had FIVE bankruptcies!
OH I just passed out on the floor!!! FIVE you say, and Trump had ‘four’ with how many major world known projects he completed? Oh the SIN of it all!!!
The whole thing about the bankruptcies is so wrong though. They were all within one company over debt restructuring. Not like Trump himself went bankrupt. argh I hate the disinformation mongers.
I know....people only read and see and think what they want, you can show it, talk about it, but you can’t lead a horse to water....
I wonder what was promised and by whom to entice Romney to jump into the primary brouhaha and make an utter ass of himself.....
He just flushed down the toilet what little honor and stature he had remaining after his dismal effort against Barack Obama.
And the rest of the story..........as Newt brought out Romney’s past business practices during the primaries, there were endless daily criticism of Newt as being too negative, too critical (hysterical in comparison to now). He tried to point out that Romney’s businesses were issues that needed to be exposed before the general, as the Democrats would be far more brutal. In fact, remember, and it was a turning point, the man who essentially accused Romney of murdering his wife? Romney closed the business where he worked thus they lost their healthcare and she died of cancer....
Gingrich was absolutely 100% accurate, it is exactly what happened. If anyone thinks that this is not going to happen to Trump, they are dilusional.
Bain Capital sold the assets of the companies and closed them. They were not “reorganization”. Entirely different.
If you find it, please ping me. TIA.

Tagg Romneys Company Misled Reporters About Its Relationship With Ponzi SchemeLinked Firm
Last year, Tagg Romney’s company Solamere Capital persuaded reporters that it had not invested in a Ponzi-linked firm. Documents with the SEC tell a different story.
[snip]
The claim that Solamere Group didnt invest directly in Solamere Advisors, the firm employing former Stanford employees,
appears to have been an attempt to shield Mitt Romney.
Mitt invested about $10 million into Taggs Solamere Capital venture, which
would suggest Mitt has a direct financial relationship with folks involved in a Ponzi scheme.
