Sowell’s problem is that he doesn’t understand common sense trade, where the trade benefits BOTH nations, not just one. Trump wants to restore trade as it was, when BOTH nations benefited from the exchange. Trump is not an isolationist by any means, no matter what Sowell & Levin purport.

When he's for a fivefold increase in H1B Visas and the TPA (which dramatically increases the probability TPP will be enacted) he's going along the the primary GOPe/Democrat goal. Pursuit of that goal is the root causes of this nation's dramatic decline which is our loss of national sovereignty to the Globalist Nobility by replacing the Constitution with "Treaty Obligations:".
Protectionist trade policy was the norm for most of our history for a very good reason. Trade treaties lead to exactly the sort of "foreign entanglements" the Founding Fathers warned us to stay clear of.
Folks, I believe in trade. We all do. It’s trade that is destructive to the U. S. that I don’t support, and I’d bet all of you agree with me.
While we may differ on what exactly healthy trade is, there’s no denying we have over 40 million able bodied people out of work, and there are far too many service related jobs for very low scale.
I like Sowell too, but he’s got a blind spot here that is bigger than the nearest black hole.

It was my understanding (granted it has been many years since sociology 101, and that before political correctness developed its stranglehold on higher education) that the reason China declined from its high level of science, technology, liberal arts, etc., was not because of the wall, the wall had little to do with it. Indeed the wall was the result of their great wealth, perseverance, and engineering capabilities. China fell because of the decline of their great monotheistic faith, replaced first with ancestor worship which then became a sort of polytheism and concomitant rise in superstition with the practice of immoral and barbaric behaviors such as slavery, homosexuality, pederasty, polygamy, drug abuse, and infanticide. As well, with this moral decline and growth of superstition, came the inability to observe and think objectively, which ultimately led to the scientific and economic stagnation of their great civilization. And as the Chinese people slid into this moral decline, with every aspect of their daily lives dominated by fearful superstition, and with no firm moral code to guide them, eventually the nation fell like rotten fruit. And so will we, if we forget the God who made us and fail to keep His great moral law. Anyway, that it is what I remember of what I was taught.
I am still trying to figure out how the people who put us in this situation should be the ones who we trust to get us out of this situation.
