After the Convention is suspended for four days, due to 1968-style rioting occurring outside the convention hall, they’d select some RINO candidate who would go down in flames in November.

The idea is to go to get the state delegates. Delegates are chosen by state conventions.
On the first ballot, those delegates are bound to vote for the frontrunner.
If you were to devise a plan, you would have to go to the 50 state conventions (or 40)
This is what Ben Ginsberg did 4 years ago to prevent Ron Paul from using his delegates.

I guess my question is...What is your suggestion on how to handle it if Trump falls short of 51%?
Should they pass a new rule before the convention that changes the existing rules in favor of Trump?
Should they mandate that after the first vote if no candidate reaches 51%, all of the delegates are forced to change their votes to whoever had the most votes in prior vote?
I don’t really see the issue here. The convention is setup in a way that if there is overwhelming support for a candidate (>50%), he becomes the nominee. If there isn’t, the party needs to find consensus. That is the way the convention has always worked and from a practical standpoint, I think makes the most sense.

Yes, but McTurtle, McLame, Linda & the like would be just as happy in the minority to keep the status quo!
