Poll: Carson tops list of potential Trump running-mates

Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson tops the list of potential running-mates for Donald Trump if the businessman wins the GOP nomination, according to a new poll.

Carson is the choice of 11 percent of Republican and GOP-leaning independent voters, a Morning Consult poll released Monday found.

Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, the candidates right behind Trump in the GOP race, are tied for second with 9 percent each.

John Kasich, also a Republican presidential candidate, follows with 8 percent, tied with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who endorsed Trump last week after dropping out of the GOP race in February.

Carson's business manager Armstrong Williams told The Hill on Tuesday that Carson wouldn't be dropping out of the GOP race, despite not having any potential state wins in sight.

The soft-spoken retired neurosurgeon himself indicated Tuesday morning that he's been asked by Republican Party officials to suspend his campaign.

Cruz, Rubio and a slew of pundits have called on Carson to drop out of the race amid an effort to coalesce around a single alternative to Trump.

Thirty-eight percent of those surveyed over the weekend didn't list a hypothetical VP for Trump. The survey of 2,002 registered voters was conducted Feb. 26-27 with a margin of error of 2 points.

Problem is, we need a Vice President who can run for the presidency after Trump’s terms are up.

I really don’t think Carson is presidential material.

Who would have thought that both 2016 Republicans in the ticket had voted for dems/obama in 08.

I think he could be with the right seasoning. 4 or 8 years as VP might be enough.

Ben Carson tops the list of potential running-mates for Donald Trump according to meaningless poll.

That’s more like it.

Quayle, Kemp, Palin and Ryan. Continuing a losing tradition.

I'd rather see Sessions as VP. I'm guessing though that it might end up being Kasich.

Cruz on the SCOTUS would also be extremely nice.

Not sure why. We need a key state (Florida or Ohio). Balance race, age, gender.

Carson for Surgeon General.

Christie for Attorney General.

Cruz for SCOTUS.

Not sure who for VP. Not thrilled with the Florida candidates (Rubio or Bush) or Ohio (Kasich). But I could live with Kasich. He has legislative experience.

Trump needs to get an active VP that can be the hands on with Congress guy. That’d be an excellent move.

Kasich may also be able to calm down the establishment - being the Cheney to George W.

I am a Trump supporter and would LOVE Carson as a running mate.

Having said that, this is a survey of Republican opinion.

But it is up to Trump who he will run with. Carson probably has a shot, and I suspect that Trump will go with a NON-POLITICIAN (thus even more of a plus for Carson). However, I have no idea who he actually will pick. I am probably going to be good with his choice, he is going to pick whoever can help him in his cabinet and unlike previous Presidents, Trump is very much a “cabinet team, advisors” type CEO personality, so whoever it is they will not play some “go sit over there” role, this person will be expected to participate and contribute in no small way and be very active in the entire anti-establishment agenda. Besides working the economy, I suspect rooting out those who are going to try and back-stab and firewall the new administration agenda is going to be isolated or rooted out, this will be a job in itself.

A couple of things argue against Carson being on the ticket. One, Trump has said he needs someone who can help him get his agenda through Congress. Carson would be of no help in that area. Two, Carson would actually have to campaign instead of just showing up for a debate every few weeks. I don’t think he wants to do that. In short, Carson adds nothing to the ticket.
