Fears of Donald Trump as Fascist Echo Similar Warnings Against Ronald Reagan
NY Sun ^ | February 29, 2016 | IRA STOLL

I’m not telling anyone not to panic. But myself, I am just taking a deep breath or two and relaxing. I will probably get called a Trump enabler, or worse, for saying so. Alas, telling people to calm down doesn’t generate the clicks or television ratings that the Trump panic does. But here — to help you sleep better, if nothing else — is a case that the alarm over Trump is probably overstated.

First of all, such Hitler hype has happened before, and been unwarranted. Steven Hayward, author of “The Age of Reagan,” recalls the rhetoric:

Democratic Rep. William Clay of Missouri charged that Reagan was “trying to replace the Bill of Rights with fascist precepts lifted verbatim from Mein Kampf.” The Los Angeles Times cartoonist Paul Conrad drew a panel depicting Reagan plotting a fascist putsch in a darkened Munich beer hall. Harry Stein (later a conservative convert) wrote in Esquire that the voters who supported Reagan were like the “good Germans” in “Hitler’s Germany.”...John Roth, a Holocaust scholar at Claremont College, wrote: “I could not help remembering how 40 years ago economic turmoil had conspired with Nazi nationalism and militarism—all intensified by Germany’s defeat in World War I—to send the world reeling into catastrophe. . . . It is not entirely mistaken to contemplate our postelection state with fear and trembling.”

FR’s holier-than-thou crew makes that clear.

Levin and Rush Reagan experts never mention this being said about Reagan.

Accused like Trump of being a supporter of KKK which is a Joseph Goebbels lie

Even Paul Ryan who told Laura Imgraham he never heard of the Carrier layoffs

We were told Reagan was going to start WW3.
The best rated TV series in the 80’s was “The Day After” about the beginning of WW3.

Reagan was a better communicator.
Trump is a better manager.

The establishment enjoy their good lives and could care less about those that put them there. It will soon be payback time.

Reagan’s reaction to false charges was not like Donald the dilettante’s. One reason for this is Reagan had been a conservative for a long time by the time he ran for president. He’d been governor of California for two terms. Trump is new to conservatism. In fact, he is to conservatism what Bruce Jenner is to womanhood. It’s all new to him. He’s still unsure of things. It’s part of why he’s so mercurial.

History does repeat itself.

The republican elites were in a similar fit of pique 40 years ago when Ronald Reagan won the republican nomination for the 1980 presidential election.

Reagan went on to win the election in a landslide, receiving the most electoral votes that a non-incumbent presidential candidate had ever won.

But the republican elites still didn’t like him.

Basically their position was that he was a Washington outsider, didn’t understand the system, and that he shot from the hip.

That’s a good part of the reason he ended up with ultimate insider George H. W. Bush as his Veep.
(A choice that was to come back and haunt us for the next quarter century.)

The establishment nearly went into convulsions when Reagan called the Soviet Union ‘The Evil Empire’.

Sound familiar?

I dont care what excuse you come up with.

Neither of the two are Nazis and there is no excuse to utilize rhetoric that as a legit campaign talking point.

Because if people get away with it YOU will be next on the list.

People on FR that talk like that sound no different than some insane leftist.

Gimme a break, Donald Trump isn’t a patch to Ronald Reagan.

If the Republican Party nominates Trump, I hope that I don't hear from my father's grave "I didn't leave the Party, the Party left me." — Michael Reagan (@ReaganWorld) January 29, 2016

“Mr Trump, I knew Ronald Reagan. And you’re no Ronald Reagan.”

Being attentive to politics long before RWR ran, not once did I ever hear any comparing him to a facist or Nazi. Of course the MSM guys quoted didn’t carry much weight back then either. He indeed was slammed for being TOO CONSERVATIVE, ( won’t be able to DEAL with Shumer and Pelousi) a chant we hear today from the chumpbots about Cruz.

I don’t compare Trump to RR or anyone. Reagan stood on his own feet, ideas, and Presidency...and did well. From the time Reagan started, mud was thrown at him. So be it. They are throwing mud at Trump. He is a winner and will take what he needs to win tonight. I for one want to help give him the chance he will need. Trump has won before and will this time if we do nothing but let him succeed.

I’m not making any excuse. I’m pointing out the obvious. Trump could have knocked this one out of the park. It was a softball. Instead, the day after he’d disavowed them, he feigned ignorance of whom Duke was. He said he didn’t know who he was. This he said despite having disavowed the guy two days before! Why? Because Trump is an amateur, he makes amateur mistakes. In addition, because Trump is new to conservatism, he probably would have never even considered that a good liberal like him, a funder of liberals, a funder of abortion and its industry, would actually be a secret KKK member. Of course, he’s not. He is, like Bruce Jenner, a man who is new to what he doesn’t understand.

Trump couldn’t shine Reagan’s shoes. There is simply no comparison. Insanity, and we’ll pay for it — soon.
