"I can see the bumper sticker now: âVote Trump â Because there are jobs Americans wonât do.â
Cruz and Rubio finally landed some blows against Trump in this debate; Rubioâs mockery was especially amusing (and unnerving for Trump), though my man Cruzâs attacks were more serious and grounded. But at this late date, the hits Trump took on his (lack of a) health care plan, tax returns, even Trump University, might not make any difference.
But the whole point of his candidacy is that heâs a nationalist, that his first concern is for America and Americans; his (obviously unread) immigration plan promises to âPut American Workers Firstâ. That makes the âjobs Americans wonât doâ rationalizations especially damaging to his brand. Weâll see if his rivals can take advantage of this weakness over the next five days.

Trump is running as a strong nationalist who wants to bring back American Jobs. However, when challenged on his history of hiring foreign workers instead of Americans Trump immediately ran with the pro illegal immigration argument that they were doing jobs that Americans wouldn't do. Here is another section of the article which quotes Trump making this pro foreign worker argument.
""As far as the people that Iâve hired in various parts of Florida during the absolute prime season, like Palm Beach and other locations, you could not get help. Itâs the up season. People didnât want to have part-time jobs. There were part-time jobs, very seasonal, 90-day jobs, 120-day jobs, and you couldnât get. Everybody agrees with me on that. They were part-time jobs. You needed them, or we just might as well close the doors, because you couldnât get help in those hot, hot sections of Florida."
And he elaborated during his second sit-down with CNN after the debate:
"On the Palm Beach thing â itâs very, very hard â you know Palm Beach, you probably do know Palm Beach, you may know Palm Beach, I hope you do know Palm Beach â itâs hot as a pistol. You cannot get help during the season. The season goes from like October âtil March. Itâs almost impossible to get help. And part of the reason that you canât get â you know, American people â they want full time jobs. This is a four-month, five-month job. [An hour earlier, it had been a 90-day, 120-day job -- MK] They want long-term jobs, they donât want this. So, we do hire some people, but we have to bring people in because itâs the season and you canât get people. Itâs pretty simple. And by the way, I do it legally. You know itâs done through a process. You know, we sign documents, we sign all sorts of papers, they come in totally legally, they come in from different parts of the world. But we have no choice.""

WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) today presented an amendment to the Gang of Eight immigration bill that would improve our nation’s legal immigration system by increasing high-skilled temporary worker visas, called H-1B visas, by 500 percent. The measure would effectively address the needs of our nation’s high-skilled workforce by helping meet the growing demand for workers in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. It will also make block grants available to states to promote STEM education efforts and increase domestic STEM professionals. The committee voted against the amendment 4 to 14 with every Democrat voting against it on a party-line vote.
Trump should run:
Stop all immigration except by hot Eastern European women!
Trump’s reasoning to hire these foreign workers makes sense to me. Being from a construction family and worked those long hot summers, I know how hard it is to get help when it is needed. Construction work is no piece of cake and those who manage it do a difficult job.
You do realize National Review is a joke, don't you?
Are they still pushing Romney?
I don’t care if they work. I just don’t want them voting.
Just amazing how Team Cruz keeps running face first into the punches.
Gee temp manual labor proejct jobs (Trump) vs high wager permanent tech jobs (Cruz)
Cruz has become more Conservative on H1B visas and he has seen how they have been abused. Trump on the other hand has been abusing the system while at the same time trying to run as some kind of pro American Jobs crusader.
Trump was called on his hypocracy as well left mouthing the pro illegal immigration line about jobs that American’s wont do. It seems to me that Trump forgot which side of the debate he is currently supposed to be on.
Won't someone think of the babes?
So, you and Trump favor the H2b system. I thought he had attacked it.
So how is something that allegedly happened over 35 years ago “breaking news”? Especially coming from the Ted Cruz Fan Club Magazine?
Three years ago? That’s like three decades in Trump Years isn’t it?
Wait, I thought that Trump supporters hated the H1b and H2b programs. Are those programs good now that Trump has given them his blessing?
I remember way back, when I first started posting at Free Republic, I misspelled hypocrisy and had my a55 tore up for it. LOL. There are jobs that Americans won’t do. I have no problem with foreign workers doing them. I just don’t think doing those jobs entitles them to citizenship, welfare, and the right to vote in our elections.
The article is discussing Trumps answer given tonight at the debate about why in the last few years (not 30 years ago) he has been using the H2b system to bring in foreign workers to work at his resort instead of hiring Americans.
When caught on his hypocrisy Trump responded by arguing that he had to bring in those workers to do jobs that American’s wouldn’t do. This is a major flip flop that leaves Trump now supporting the H2b program using the same argument used by the amnesty advocates.
Bringing in foreign workers destroys the normal law of supply and demand. Under normal circumstances, employers should be paying higher wages during the busy season. Thanks to foreign workers, they don’t have to, while wringing their hands over the situation. Trump is good at that.
Remember,Trump is against illegal immigration. Don't the sight of those "Eastern European women" soften your brain.
I know. It was a joke. :)
Soviet-esque cover.
The H2b system is way out of my league to comment on.
I actually agree with you on that. However, Trump and many of his supporters have been attacking the h1b and h2b programs as terrible. So, I wonder what many of his supporters who thought Trump was looking out for their jobs will think of Trump’s hypocritical flip flop.
