I appreciate you posting this. It was discussed on Morning Joe.
I erred commenting about it on another thread, thinking it was an ovation occurring in TEXAS, but it was South Carolina.
South Carolina and TEXAS have a LOT in common, however. TRUMP can take TEXAS.
>>> the importance of family
Kids with three wives. Ok.
I wonder if they cheered when he bragged about having sex with married women. Oh, I guess he forgot to mention that to the evangelicals.
Did he talk about the 2 Corinthians while waving his mother’s bible around?
How sad, that a man who brags he’s never asked for forgiveness is cheered at such a place.
It tells much about the dumbing down of Christianity.
“Ultimately, politics is about forging an emotional connection with voters. Bill Clinton did it. George W. Bush did it. Barack Obama did it. And Donald Trump is now doing it. Is it fair to someone like Cruz who is a staunch rock-ribbed conservative? No itâs not. Is it a reality? Unfortunately for Cruz it is.”
I think the article recognizes the reality; Cruz is a great guy, but between the issues in Iowa, the National Review blitz, and frankly Glenn Beck, he’s allowed his friends and staffers to mud him.
Conversely, Trump is getting flak from conservatives’ and evangelicals’ *enemies*, which fires up Trump supporters. Also, Trump’s background in media makes him adept at making that emotional connection; Cruz’s background in law makes him adept at making arguments.
I’m on the Trump side, but would gladly vote Cruz in the general — but I think that’s a low-percentage possibility at this point. Who knows? Bottom line: better either one than a Rubio or a Dim.
Well, with Trump I guess it depends what day of the week it is and which audience he's speaking to. Here is Ducking Donald dodging and deflecting when asked about his views on late-term abortion. This was on January 28 of this year:
Trump exposes everything conservatives have said for the last fifty years as situational hypocrisy.
Cruz “character”:
1. Phony summonses mailed out, scaring people to vote for Cruz.
2. Claiming Carson quit, presinc captains told voters “vote for Cruz”
3. Campaigning in the 800 churches, showing video “vote for me” with his preacher/father stomping for him. Rafael Cruz is a 7 Mountain Dominionist and believes his son is the anointed one.
4. “Brilliant” lawyer, did not know he was Canadian citizen and that he is not Natural Born Citizen, not eligible for office of P or VP.
5. Making phony video advertising with lies about opponents.
6. Phony video about Rubio - Obama.
7. 7 Mountain Dominionist Church = Christian???
Just enough to beat Trump in IA, apologize, rinse and repeat?
Liar is the polite term for this Cuban. His father was pro-communist in Cuba, imprisoned by Batista, but now he is refugee?
IRREFUTABLE AUTHORITY HAS SPOKEN
(Oct. 18, 2009) The Post & Email has in several articles mentioned that the Supreme Court of the United States has given the definition of what a “natural born citizen” is. Since being a natural born citizen is an objective qualification and requirement of office for the U.S. President (and VP), it is important for all U.S. Citizens to understand what this term means.

Applies to Cruz and Rubio, both at the time not born to US citizens and on US soil.
I went to a Trump event recently here in South Carolina and it was very clear that there were a lot of evangelicals in the crowd (strongly cheering over Trump’s opposition to gay marriage and abortion). People may be puzzled by this, but it’s clearly a movement. We could call it the Trump juggernaut.
This is exactly what I said about Cruz for six months. Ted would say “I sponsored a bill...” And that created two responses: 1) Did you win? (No) 2) so you ARE an insider. These aren’t entirely fair but there is truth in each question.
Second, Ted rolled out HUNDREDS of endorsements . . . But that just reinforced the insider image. How are you different if all the guys who got us here are for you?
Third, once Ted tried to become (and I am not being nasty) the Puritan he could afford NO hint of dirt.
Agreed. Good piece.
Except I don’t see W. as having forged an emotional bond with voters. He got elected in no small part because of his name and massive funding advantage. His big message was that he was inevitable in the primary and then ultimately could win.
