45% of Americans pay no federal income tax
MarketWatch ^ | February 24, 2016 | By Catey Hill

An estimated 45.3% of American households - roughly 77.5 million - will pay no federal individual income tax, according to data for the 2015 tax year from the Tax Policy Center.

Roughly half pay no federal income tax because they have no taxable income, and the other roughly half get enough tax breaks to erase their tax liability.

On average, those in the bottom 40% of the income spectrum end up getting money from the government. Meanwhile, the richest 20% of Americans, by far, pay the most in income taxes, forking over nearly 87% of all the income tax collected by Uncle Sam.

The top 1% of Americans, who have an average income of more than $2.1 million, pay 43.6% of all the federal individual income tax in the U.S.; the top 0.1% - just 115,000 households, whose average income is more than $9.4 million - pay more than 20% of it.

45% of Americans pay no federal income tax

And that same 45% of Americans who pay no federal income tax should not be permitted to vote in a federal election.

But thanks to all the do-gooders who thought it would be a great idea to give the vote to non tax payers, we committed financial suicide on January 23, 1963.

Or receive any federal aid. Having no skin is the game is tantamount with voting yourself a raise.

If one pays nothing, expect nothing in return.

This is why I’m for a flat tax. Those with no skin in the game are a reliable vote for the welfare state.

The only reason welfare programs ever got started was because of the 24th amendment. "The Great Society" programs were nothing but vote bribing schemes for newly enfranchised non-taxpayers.

We have shoved 21 trillion dollars down that rat hole in just money, and probably double that or more in the misguided policies that resulted from allowing non-taxpayers to vote.

"The War on Poverty" kept Democrats in power in congress for 40 years.

I think parents who allowed their kids to be indoctrinated into socialism/communism from the 6th grade, with no supervision whatsoever should have to pay DOUBLE.

Actually, we can thank GW Bush for this when he started giving larger “tax breaks” to people than what they actually paid in.

If that’s the way you feel I’ll voluntarily stay home on election day.

The USA has a good track record when protectionism ruled the day and tariffs funded the Federal Govt.

... and many non-payers actually receive a “refund” for taxes they never paid but would have paid if they made enough money. This type of welfare check makes my head spin!

Didn’t he said it was 27% during the election. Does this add the illegals?

Passage of the 24th amendment which allowed non-taxpayers to vote. Specifically the last three words of it; "or other tax." The rest of it was fine, but those last three words were cosmic in their effect.

This was a quantum shift in this nation's history. Before January 23, 1963, only tax payers were allowed to vote.

This is the point in history where we killed ourselves as a nation.
