Standing in a garage doesn't make you a car.

Working in the Vatican doesn't make you a Christian.

Lots of people fake it.

Heck, she had an ex-husband (catholic no no)

And a current BOYFRIEND ...unwed pregnancy (also a catholic no no)

I think the vast majority of Catholics are "cafeteria Catholics." The shortcomings you point to are catholic orthodoxy, and look akin to "works."

But, you are right, I don't know what is in her heart. I will, however, persist in holding that odds are she was a woman of faith.

Eritrea is in East Africa - a former Italian colony. (next to Ethiopia)

They’ve already got refugees like the famous scofflaw Bernard Law behind the Argentinian refugee’s massive wall.

I think the Italians gave the area the name Eritrea when they conquered it (their initial attempt to conquer all of Ethiopia or Abyssinia in the late 19th century failed). The name is from the ancient Greek name for the Red Sea, Erythra thalassa (or thalatta).

They mentioned ex-husband, if you’re separated you’re still husband and wife. So which is it?

And yes I am speculating (as are you) but given the nature of this Pope I’ll bet that my speculation is closer to reality than yours - what do you think?

Oft times I hear the statistics that divorce among Christians is almost equal to that of non-Christians.

But then, when they break it down further, to those who "claim" to be Christians and those who are active in their churches and say that their faith is vitally important to them, I believe the divorce rate drops to maybe the low teens IIRC.

Point being...yes, there are a lot of cafeteria Christians. Activity OR zeal doesn't eliminate sin or poor choices, but it sure reduces the odds.

In all this, I don't presuppose anything on her.
I look at my own life, current and past and question myself.

Sad story on the earthly end, but I bet she is singing praises with the heavenly choir!

Depends. Did she repent of any sins, especially mortal sins? From the article . . .

Police are investigating a case of neglect and have interviewed family members, her ex-husband from whom she was separated, and most recent boyfriend, thought to be a policeman in the Vatican, according to Rome-based newspaper il Messaggero.

I’m happy to learn that there are no sinners among my many Catholic friends.

Diabetic and Pregnant - that is a bad combo and could have easily killed her.

You’re right it’s either a pregnant woman shaking up or a saint. There’s nothing else available in between for a pope’s secretary.

And one can have compassion for the poor woman and still question this pope’s standards. The two are not contradictory.

Just like you might help out a bum, but not have him as your best friend.

Sloppy journalism. Separated. I concur with grave reservations about Pope Francis upholding morality, but we can’t presume scandal in the lack of evidence.

You may want to re-read Romans 3:23 or perhaps read it for the first time ;)

As a FORMER Catholic I plead with you.

The headline implies that the Pope impregnated her.

Does anyone use their brains when they write headlines these days?
