EPA forcing towns to clean up Charles River

Nearly every summer over the past decade, toxic algae blooms, fueled by warm weather and contaminated runoff, have coated parts of the Charles River. Now the federal government is poised to issue sweeping regulations ordering a cleanup, a move expected to cost some river municipalities tens of millions of dollars.

The regulations have sparked a range of concerns in cities and towns near the river. In Franklin, for example, local officials estimated the regulations would cost residents an average of $300 a month, and at least $62 million over 20 years, to do things like capture and treat more water.

It’s much better than it used to be and has a terrific bike/walking trail.

Quite a lovely thing.

Did the EPA force themselves to clean-up the massive pollution they caused last year in the gold mining disaster they caused out west? Did they fire anyone? Did they imprison anyone? Did they pay any fines? What a bunch of pompous, self-preening losers.

A lot of the phosphorus comes from animal waste and over-fertilization of lawns. These things should be addressed through public education. As long as people do not clean up after their pets and the perfect green lawn is considered de rigueur in the suburbs, not much can be done.

If the EPA attacks anyone, let it be those lib cities and states that voted to support them.

It’s time that communities tell the EPA to put their regulations where the sun don’t shine. Arrest them for trespassing if you have to.

I would think that a state dominated by Democrats and liberals wouldn’t have this type of problem.

Who is going to clean up after all the wildlife - the deer, coyotes, moose, etc. We are being overrun with animals that never were here when I was a kid. I'm talking about the suburbs net to Boston, a densely populated area.

We already have a sewer tax that is quadruple the cost of water in greater Boston to clean up Boston Harbor. Maybe the EPA will give birth to another Boston Tea Party.
