Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump on Sunday said he does not know what he was trying to say during a 2002 interview in which he supported the Iraq invasion.
Asked if he was in favor of invading Iraq by radio show host Howard Stern, Trump responded: "Yeah, I guess so. You know, I wish it was - I wish the first time it was done correctly."
Asked Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" to clarify the comment, Trump said he doesn't know what he meant.
"Well, what I mean by that is it almost shouldn't have been done, and, you know, I really don't even know what I mean, because that was a long time ago, and who knows what was in my head?" he said.
"I think that it wasn't done correctly. In retrospect it shouldn't have been done at all," he added. "It was sort of, you know, it was just done, it was just - we dropped bombs."
On the campaign trail, Trump has often touted his prescient opposition to the Iraq War.
Trump said his comments from 2002 were "long before" Operation Iraqi Freedom began.
"That was long before the war took place," he said. "That was, you know, many, many months before the war took place. And you could see by my answer, I wasn't exactly thrilled."
Trump on the day after the invasion called it a "tremendous success."
The billionaire businessman also said he was preoccupied with running his company at the time.
"But if you look at my conversation, I was a very - that was probably the first time - don't forget, I was in business, I was businessman, I was a real-estate man and a businessman," he said. "That was the first time I think that question was ever even asked of me."
In 2000 Donald Trump wrote in HIS book, The America we Deserve
...Consider Iraq. After each pounding from U.S . warplanes, Iraq has dusted itself off and gone right back to work developing a nuclear arsenal. Six years of tough talk and U.S. fireworks in Baghdad have done little to slow Iraq's crash program to become a nuclear power. They've got missiles capable of flying nine hundred kilometers-more than enough to reach Tel Aviv. They've got enriched uranium. All they need is the material for nuclear fission to complete the job, and, according to the Rumsfeld report, we don't even know for sure if they've laid their hands on that yet. That's what our last aerial assault on Iraq in 1999 was about. Saddam Hussein wouldn't let UN weapons inspectors examine certain sites where that material might be stored. The result when our bombing was over? We still don't know what Iraq is up to or whether it has the material to build nuclear weapons. I'm no warmonger. But the fact is, if we decide a strike against Iraq is necessary, it is madness not to carry the mission to its conclusion. When we don't, we have the worst of all worlds: Iraq remains a threat, and now has more incentive than ever to attack us.
Shut up you flip-floppin windbag.
Keep diggin’, CW, keep diggin’. So, how is your constant spamming of anti-Trump / Pro-Cruz working out for ya, convince many people yet?

Whether intended or not, comments and policies of Mitt Romney and other Republican candidates during this election were seen by Hispanics and Asians as hostile to them, Trump says.
"Republicans didn't have anything going for them with respect to Latinos and with respect to Asians," the billionaire developer says.
"The Democrats didn't have a policy for dealing with illegal immigrants, but what they did have going for them is they weren't mean-spirited about it," Trump says. "They didn't know what the policy was, but what they were is they were kind."
Romney's solution of "self deportation" for illegal aliens made no sense and suggested that Republicans do not care about Hispanics in general, Trump says.
"He had a crazy policy of self deportation which was maniacal," Trump says. "It sounded as bad as it was, and he lost all of the Latino vote," Trump notes. "He lost the Asian vote. He lost everybody who is inspired to come into this country."
The GOP has to develop a comprehensive policy "to take care of this incredible problem that we have with respect to immigration, with respect to people wanting to be wonderful productive citizens of this country," Trump says."....
And he still destroyed Scott Walker, Jeb Bush, and Ted Cruz...
Oh, man. What was I thinking that day?
A flip-floppin, skirt-chasin, wife-cheatin, pompous-ass, narcissist, loud, principle-less gasbag is about to be nominated as the Republican Presidential candidate all thanks to his one-hit-wonder song about the wall and how Mexico is going to be paying for it. It makes perfect sense. In a bizarro world.
Maybe instead of demanding a wall his supporters should demand he get his thoughts together first......then build the wall.
Getting ready for fasting tomorrow??
The good people of New Hampshire and South Carolina seem to disagree with you.
‘Who knows what was in my head?’
Nobody knew then.
And nobody knows now.
Shock & Awe
I know what was in my head when I supported it.
An error.
It’s not like he was running a world wide multi-billion dollar business or anything else demanding.

LOL!!
Good strategy. Best of luck.
“Itâs not like he was running a world wide multi-billion dollar business or anything else demanding.”
So, has that changed? Last time I checked, Trump is still running his empire, so what makes you think it has changed?
Do as I say, not as I do.
