What Was Left Of The Moderate Republican Party Just Died In South Carolina (that's been our goal!)
insideaij.com ^ | 2/20/16

With former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush dropping out of the Republican presidential contest and Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) finishing either second or a close third in South Carolina's primary, you're going to hear a lot about Rubio consolidating support among moderate Republicans.

And maybe that's how it really will work out. In a three-way race against Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas) and real estate mogul Donald Trump, Rubio might be the most attractive alternative to the voters who were supporting Bush - and who can't abide Cruz's stridency or Trump's explosiveness.

But don't for a second believe that Rubio is a moderate. In fact, the real takeaway from South Carolina is that, with Bush exiting the race and Ohio Gov. John Kasich likely to follow sometime in the not-distant future, what was left of the GOP's moderate wing is officially dead.

But don’t for a second believe that Rubio is a moderate.

That is an exhortation, not an argument compelling those of us who believe otherwise to change our views.

A real American wouldn’t vote for an Amnesty Snake, period.

The candidates still have their differences, of course. One (Cruz) is a true-believing conservative, one (Rubio) is an ideological shape-shifter, and one (Trump) is a nativist bomb-thrower.

Spot on.

With their last dying gasp, establishment types are grasping onto one last hope: that GOPe Party rules will make it hard for Trump to clinch the nom. Trump is winning by pulling 30-40 percent of states' votes, making party-designated winner-take-all- thresholds out of reach. Party rules make Trump/s securing the nom that much more difficult: (1) formally: winning a majority of delegates, or, (2) informally: broad support being so obvious it stifles competition.

Piffle. All of the GOPe rules mean nothing, nada, zippo. The fact is Donald Trump/s towering wins mean that he now OWNS the Republican Party. Anything the GOPe did is DOA....including rules that were meant to cement the establishment candidates in power.

THE BEST PART is GOPe party leaders are scared to death of Trump/s candidacy. They know he can make his own rules.

Unless it’s Trump and his touchback amnesty which isn’t really amnesty amnesty same as it’s not rape rape if a liberal democrat does it.

“Bomb thrower” is another perversion of language like ‘bomb shell” that means nothing.

Trump tells it the way it is, and throws political correctness into the dumpster where it belongs. People on FR have been BEGGING for someone to do this since the Clinton era!

So screw the Huffington Post, which is where this is posted.

Go Trump!

Trump sure hasn't gone after Mr. Amnesty the way he has Cruz.

You understate and do not fully explain what you call ‘touchback’ in this case. Perhaps if you went back and looked at what “legally applying for entry” afterwards meant you wouldn’t be so critical. Regardless, we differ. Thank you for your comment.

62% voted against the three establishment candidates in South Carolina. Can anyone see any of those voters giving up one of the biggest issues to vote against it? Especially from a person who lied to us from his heart about that very issue.

The best thing Trump has done is to destroy the GOPe. It needed to be destroyed.

As the focus moves now to Rubio, his low hanging fruit amnesty issue will be in full focus as well. I would contend that most do not know the full history of his dishonesty but it will be on full display very soon.

Again, why invest the time to go after low hanging fruit when the 800 pound gorilla of the Bush Super PACs were a more immediate danger. Choose the toughest targets first while keeping an eye on the entire board, the easy ones will fall much quicker and dramatically once the others are out of the way.

“Trump sure hasn’t gone after Mr. Amnesty the way he has Cruz.”

Frankly, I think that’s coming. He’s already started it this morning, and there’s a debate on Thursday.

We know Rubio is the GOPe pick behind Bush.

It's a little early, but I'm wondering if Trump will make a 'deal' with the RNC?

We’ll never read a similar, but similarly true, story about how the “moderate” wing of the left is dead, even though it is deader than a door knob and has been for a long while.

Died? Hardly. They will be supporting Rubio and Fox News is pimping hard for them this morning.
