Pressure grows on Hillary Clinton to release Goldman Sachs speeches

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Hillary Clinton continued to resist calls to release her transcripts of paid speeches she gave to Goldman Sachs and other banks, saying she would hold onto them until Bernie Sanders and other rivals for the U.S. presidency released theirs.

Sanders, her populist rival for the Democratic presidential nomination who has surged in polls with his furious rebukes of Wall Street and its role in the 2008 recession, said on Friday he had none to release because he does not give paid speeches to banks.

Clinton's reluctance to reveal what she privately told banks and other organizations has become an increasingly heated issue ahead of the election this November as she fights suggestions by Sanders and others from their party's more liberal wing that she is too cozy with the U.S. financial industry.

What is this, junior high school? She won’t do something unless someone else has to do it??

If she wants to set a good example, she can release her speeches if she thinks it’s the right thing to do.

What does it matter whether other candidates release their speeches as to what she does on this subject????

why do they have to go first? Why doesn’t she go first??

The speeches are reportedly deadly. She praises GS to the skies, telling them what a great job they are doing providing capital to businesses.

Goldman Sachs paid her hundreds of thousands of dollars for those speeches. Don’t they own the rights to them?

Maybe those of us who own stock in Goldman Sachs should bring that up at the next stockholders meeting.

Her speaking contracts prohibited taping or video recording. She was also specific about fees, terms of payment, travel expenses, accommodations, food and beverage and who was allowed to be seen or photographed with her. In some events she stood for hand shaking pictures at $500 - $1,000 a shot. He speaking times were usually limited to 20 minutes with 30 minutes for pictures and personal greetings.

One hour on site normally brought her $175,000 to $300,000. In one incident, she was not able to speak at a scheduled campus presentation, so she sent Chelsea who for $60,000 babbled for 18 minutes and stood for some private pictures at $200 a pop.

Very true. Like that Mitt Romney comment about the 47% which caused so much controversy. That was a comment to a private gathering. Jimmy Carter’s grandson thought he was oh so clever to sneak in there and make that recording........

If its the right thing to do, what does it matter whether other candidates release their speeches? She should just do it.

And why do others have to go first? Why can’t Hillary go first and set the fine example????

Not a fan of Bernie’s but it’s my understanding that he’s given one paid speech. That was about 20 years ago, he was paid about $1,500 dollars, and donated his speaking fee to the organization that he spoke to. If that’s accurate, his people should be all over the media talking about this.

Bernie is not playing this right. He should ask the question to the press and get the press to ask Clinton that she will not release her speeches unless he does. Then at the next debate, when the question comes up, he should walk over to the moderator and hand them a blank piece of paper and declare "Here are my speeches I never gave to banks for money, now Mrs. Clinton, release yours"...

Could you imagine the optics of that moment and how the OWS movement would go nuts???
