Carr: Pope’s words answer to Donald Trump’s primary prayer
Boston Herald ^ | Howie Carr

Posted on 02/19/2016 11:05:37 PM PST by ObamahatesPACoal

Who would have ever dreamed that the pope would win a primary for Donald Trump — in South Carolina, of all places, the buckle of the Bible Belt.

Sure, Trump was probably going to prevail tomorrow anyway. But it’s over now, thanks to Pope Francis and his sanctimonious, tone-deaf statement that “a person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian.” Related Articles Pope Francis flap could boost Donald Trump in South Donald Trump blames Mexican gov’t for Pope Francis’ remarks Bernie Sanders goes on the defense while Hillary Clinton goes into attack mode

So much for 1 Corinthians 2:11: “Only God knows the truth of a man’s heart.”

So much for James 4:12: “You — who are you to judge your neighbor?”

There’s an old saying — I’d rather be lucky than good. Donald Trump sure is lucky, and he’s even luckier in his choice of enemies. He now owes the pope a “Make America Great Again!” baseball cap. You could tell how happy Trump was yesterday morning as he announced the wonderful news to his first “town hall” of the day.

“The pope?” he said, recounting his conversation with an aide. “Oh good, did he say good things? ... No? ... I don’t think you’re gonna like it so much.”

Yeah, right. Trump didn’t like it, he loved it.

Let’s face it, a lot of born-agains still don’t care all that much for the Catholic church. The pope’s PC harrumphing makes them think more kindly of Trump.

And even though there aren’t all that many Catholics in the Palmetto State, I’d bet most of them aren’t all that crazy about this secular humanist who comes off like Al Gore whenever he starts spouting off about global warming, which is about three times a day.

Does the pope even understand that he lives in a community with 36-foot-high walls — walls built in the ninth century by Pope Leo IV to protect Vatican City from savage marauding Arabs who were raping, pillaging and looting their way across Europe. Sound familiar?

I’ll say one thing for you, Vet. You sure are a confident sumbitch.

Either that, or you’re just too plain ornery to to admit defeat, even when it’s staring you in the face ‘;-)

Two states out of 50 have voted so far. There are polls showing both Cruz and Drumph winning South Carolina and Cruz has a tremendous ground game there, unmatched by anyone else. So yeah, I have reason to be confident.

The Pope talking smack at Donald Trump right before the SC primary is AT LEAST a 2 point bump for Donald.

Home of the Chick Tracts, Northwestern “Cat Lickers”, etc... they hate the Pope.

I remember our agreement.

You’re doomed buddy. :)

Yes, you made a fatal error taking a snooze. Trump has won in SC and you missed it. But that’s okay, the rerun will be on TV on Saturday, so you get to see it again. Lucky you.

I wouldn’t deny that its a plus for Donald Trump but Trump’s conciliatory praise of the Pope should have cancelled it out.

I like Cruz, more than Trump. But my calculation is 'where will the country actually sit in 8 years under either' ... and so, I'll vote for Trump, unless something changes.

Wait ... what am I doing using logic? Let me argue instead like many of the Cruz supporters, who clearly have been spending a lot of time at DU studying up on their name-calling-as-a-substitute-for-thought.

cRuse. Robinson CaRuso. Crews. Ted Crows. Crooner. Ralphael. Crudolpho the RED nosed reindeer.

Clearly, having made up many obvious misspellings, Trump is the superior candidate.

Yesterday after the pope thing happened I googled “u.s. map catholics” SC and a LOT of super tuesday states are the least catholic areas of the country. Trump gained stature with one of the most powerful guys on earth in a draw.

To be public enemy number one to one of the worlds best regarded socialists is quite an honor. It should sway at least a few fence sitters. Has Trump thanked him yet?

Howie Carr is an idiot. He told Massholes to vote for McCain. He told Massholes to vote for Romney. Now he’s telling us to vote Trump. He’ll be sorry when Bernie Sanders takes him off the radio because of political correctness, because that’s who’s going to win if Trump is our nominee.

Howie Carr is not an idiot.

He is the most influential conservative commentator in New England -- and probably as popular as Rush there.   I know because I used to listen to him all the time when I lived in Boston.

And Cruz has been courting Carr a lot with several appearances on his radio show.

So for Carr to write this editorial sends a signal to Massachusetts voters -- and it rekindles the child molestation cases like rocked the Boston Catholic community a few years ago.

So, far more significant that its affect on South Carolina, the pope's taunting of Trump may also tip the scales for Trump in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
