Russia's envoy to the U.N. on Friday warned long-term ally President Bashar al-Assad over his vow to retake all of Syria, saying he faced dire consequences if he did not comply with Moscow over the peace process.
'Russia has invested very seriously in this crisis, politically, diplomatically and now also militarily,' Vitaly Churkin told Kommersant newspaper, referring to an international agreement to cease hostilities sealed in Munich last week.
'Therefore we would like Assad also to respond to this,' he said, adding that the Syrian leader's stance 'is not in accord with the diplomatic efforts that Russia is making.'

Actually somewhat encouraging if that outlook holds.
What’s the plan for Syria then, partition?
Bark like a dog.
Kurds keep the turf they capture, which is a broad beltway over the whole north. ISIS and other beheaders get eliminated. Russia gets access to ports and resources.
The only thing he will have is a pile of rubble where cities used to be.
You broke the code. The Russians are not doing this for nothing. They aren't Americans.

I have been thinking that was the deal worked out also. Kurds get their own statelet from Latakia (Assad's homeland) to the border of Iraq. This - the Russians figure - will serve as a buffer from Turkey which supplies the jihadis. The Kurds join Assad and end their rebellion (the Kurds won) and the Assad has to make a deal with the non jihadi free syrian army for some sort of end to hostilities and all the jihadis get killed - which is traditionally how Muslim Brotherhood jihadis have been dealt with by the Assads.
Yes, the Russians want the Kurds as a counterbalance to Turkey coming into Syria.
The Turks do not want the Kurds to have their own state, as many reside in Turkey as well. There are also many Kurds in neighboring Iraq.
The Russians intend to be a player in the Middle East, and they want to keep the warm water access they have already secured in Syria, whether Assad agrees or not.
At this point, Assad will do what the Russians tell him to do, because otherwise he would have been strung up by now.

Reminds me of the movie Goodfellas that scene where the bar owner needs protection from crazy Tommie so he makes Paulie a partner for protection.
Assad is the bar owner in this scene and Don Paulie is Putin.

It would be nice if NATO let go of Turkey and Russia Assad, so that Turkey and Syria could obliterate each other with Iran.

Just wondering'...
Stupid autocorrect added the letter "g" at the end again after I took it off, *twice*.
Haha! Auto-correct is not a big fan of slang.

This is only happening because:
A) Trump is president.
B) Trump backs Israel. And for real.
Once upon a time, Putin staked all his bets on Assad and Iran - and it was Israel having to tiptoe around Russia.
Noe Russia is the one making sure it doesn’t piss off Israel.
