The US Senate has the power to affirm or reject any Presidential appointment for any reason they want.

Agreed. The appropriate Senate sub-committee should schedule an hour long hearing for the nominee about a week after she is named. At the conclusion of the hearing, they should vote to NOT send the name to the full committee. Be quick about it. Do not let the democrat media have an opportunity to advocate on behalf of their nominee.
