Reagan said the same thing, but it’s still here.

Abolish the EPA and IRS while you’re at it, Ted.

I am of the opinion that the only authority that the feds have with regards to education is:

1) defining the standards by which the feds will accept various education levels. A high school diploma means this, an associates means that. Think internal HR type stuff.

2) define the standards by which interstate transfer of education means. For example, if your student is at this level of education in one state, then when they transfer to another state, they should be at X grade level.

Outside of those two administrative actions, there is not constitutional justification for federal involvement in education. One could make the case for scholarship programs where the individual then provides some service to the government.

No Pell grants
No student loans
No title IX
etc

“Yes. It was a stupid Jimmy Carter Idea anyway.”

Just as stupid as Jimmy Carter endorsing Trump!

While he’s at it, he should also abolish the Dept. of Energy, the Dept. of HHS, HUD, and Homeland Security. None of these contribute anything but excessive regulation.

"We ought to block-grant that money, send it back to the states, send it to the local governments,"

Partially correct.

THAT money should never be collected by the fedgov period.

Good idea. The Dept. of Education has pretty much failed in its charge.
Cut off block grants, too.
But it won’t happen. No matter how good Cruz’ intentions are, there are too many votes, too much power, and too much money tied up in the Dept. of Education.

It's good that Senator Cruz agrees with Donald Trump on this one. Donald Trump is very adamant about abolishing Common Core and bringing education issues back to the state and local levels.

FWIW, "abolishing the Department of Education" isn't a better way to approach it. It's Common Core that parents endure and hate every day. Trump is making it personal.

I agree, of course, but it seems to me this a case of “too little, too late”. Cruz should have been saying this in all the debates. He needed to differentiate himself from Trump on education. Force Trump to take a position on this.

Screw Criiz! Trump had that a long time ago along with many other departments. Nothing new here except he did nothing as a Senator. All of sudden it is a campaign issue now???? WTF

Another red meat fairy tale for the gullible of the GOP base. Like defunding PP, Cruz knows this is never going to happen. But that doesn’t stop him from pretentiously strutting about while telling us he is going to do it.

Trump had this issue a long time ago. Along with other departments. You idiot. You know nothing about Trump. Just shut the hell up and learn.

Anybody know where Donald Trump stands on this issue? Didn't think so.

(Not that it matters to Trump supporters)
