[16 Oct 2015] Tom Coburn Slams Cruz Effect-Less Faith In Congress "Disappointment In The Hinterlands

"I call it the 'Cruz effect,'" Coburn, who retired from the Senate in 2014, told Sirius XM host Pete Dominick. "Look, when you tell people you can accomplish something that you can't, for example, shutting down the government over the Affordable Care Act. When, in fact, you promise people in your speeches and your talk that we can do this, and by dinghy, we're gonna get rid of the Affordable Care Act, and all we have to do is shut down the government.

"Well, that's one thing to tell 'em that," the former Oklahoma senator said. "It's a whole other thing to be able to accomplish that, and build a coalition that once you shut it, that it doesn't get opened up 'till you win.

"So what happens to that is, once you've told people that, and you've put your finger -- 'everybody that doesn't believe exactly like I believe, you're not a patriot, you don't care about the country' -- what you do is you create greater disappointment in the hinterlands, because you gave them a false hope, knowing that you couldn't accomplish it, but it was about yelling, and screaming, and waving the flag," he continued. "And so what happens is, there becomes less confidence in the Congress and its ability to do its job.

"You know, I came out of the Senate with one of the most conservative ratings ever in the history of the Senate. You know, it was like 98.8% in terms of conservative," Coburn concluded. "And yet, I compromised all the time to accomplish things that were good for the country."

This appears to be the source of the dust up over the latest Trump-Cruz dust up. Looking at the statement, one could characterize Coburn's saying the Ted Cruz promises more than he can deliver. Now is that calling Ted "the most dishonest person", well obviously not, but it is calling Ted Cruz a "dishonest person". So I think Donald Trump should issue an apology saying the Tom Coburn only call Ted a dishonest person, he didn't call him the most dishonest person.

So Trump is guilty of paraphrasing?

Frankly that’s a reason to vote for Cruz. He said what he would try to do and he did it. He did it. The fault lies with those who didn’t.

It would be like blaming Scalia for not being able to accomplish wins on the court when he was often author of the dissenting view. He didn’t select the other Justices. Cruz didn’t select the other Senators. Cruz promised to do something and he went to Washington to try and do it. He informed the voters who sent him there exactly why it was not accomplished and he named names. GOOD FOR HIM. THAT IS EXACTLY THE SORT OF PERSON I WANT TO VOTE FOR!!!!!!!

Here is what Senator Coburn just said about Trump’s made up quote. “It’s an absolute fabrication. I’ve never said that, period,” Coburn told the Washington Examiner Tuesday afternoon. “It’s unfortunate he would use my name to say something dishonest.”

Well, there is a video of Coburn from 2013 on Morning Joe where he called Cruz a liar.

When our elected only listen to those that give large amounts of money to their campaign funds and ignore the common voters can we truly claim to have a representative government instead of a defacto oligarchy?

See my post #5. Coburn did call Cruz a liar. And, Trump didn’t originate that tweet - he re tweeted it from what he considered a very reliable source. He owes Mr. Slimbeball nothing - absolutely nothing but a kick in the a**.

Apology?

Sen. Coburn: Cruz’s Ploy Was Dishonest

http://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/sen-coburn-cruzs-ploy-was-dishonest

I don’t fully understand what the hell Coburn is talking about but he did say that Cruz is dishonest.

Trump should run ads about this in all 50 states.

I would call it “exaggerated paraphrasing” or maybe “enhanced paraphrasing”, but certainly not “tortured paraphrasing”. In any event, Donald Trump is going to win this one, too. He really is a professional at this, and these professional politicians are really, really bad at this kind of thing.

.
Spineless Coburn wishes to tell us that his compromises did anything but harm to the American people?

Every compromise gave the socialists half of what they demanded. Not one of those compromises gave us anything ever.

The voters all voted for the uncompromising stands like Cruz delivered, but got only wimpering excuses from the trash they elected.

Actually Coburn has never called Cruz a liar. He thought that Cruz’s call for the House to shut down the government if necessary to defund Obamacare was intellectually dishonest because he (Sen. Coburn) didn’t think it was realistic. That is a far cry from what saying that Cruz was the biggest liar in DC like Trump was claiming he said. BTW, most conservatives thought that Cruz and the House Conservatives who fought to try and defund Obamacare were heroes. Did you support that fight?

He was saying that Cruz shouldn’t have argued that the House should defund Obamacare. He didn’t want Cruz to take the stand he did and was upset that the government got shut down. Honestly, the Cruz camp would probably be happy to pay you to produce that commercial.

Until you can produce that imaginary video, we’ll just recognize that you are just like Trump, a liar.

So I guess this makes up for Trump lying...

Knew that some Trumpmsupporter would try to explain this lie away, even after Tom Coburn said that HE DID.

I’ll admit, Trump screwed up and jumped the gun and misattributed the quote.

If Ted Cruz wasn’t a fountain of lies people probably wouldn’t be so easily confused about who he was lying to and when.
