Is the Republican Party Splitting Apart?
The Imaginative Conservative ^ | Feb. 15, 2016 | Bruce Frohnen

Whether the youth (and inexperience) of Senator Marco Rubio, the dynastic claims of Governor Jeb Bush, or the pugnacious liberalism of Governor John Kasich attracts enough votes to keep the nomination within the mainstream of elite opinion, the breakout of Mr. Trump’s upscale populism (not that different from those of Ross Perot or Richard Nixon) has shown the weakness of the rather long-in-the-tooth corporate policies of the current Republican leadership. Senator Cruz, often derided as “outside the mainstream,” in fact represents the policies and attitudes—favoring traditional families, national defense of borders and communities, and commitment to both smaller government and freer markets—that constitute a coherent governing Republican tradition.

Mr. Trump’s victory would mark a significant shift in American politics toward a kind of liberal nationalism rejecting both limited government and internationalism. Mr. Cruz’s victory would mean a re-emergence of the so-called Reagan coalition, with its strengths and weaknesses.

The problem with the GOPe icnt what they espoused to support, it’s what they actually do.

Yes, the GOP is fragmenting and the MSM is helping along by having GOP candidates exhaust themselves in long-drawn out debates and a rock ‘em-sock ‘em robots tactic. The media wants the GOP to die and they are helping spin the death dance a little faster. Problem is: is that the candidates are going along with this charade...

The party needs to split, disintegrate or transform into something else because as it stands now it is evil. I say this because the Republican party for which it stands has enabled, helped, protected obama and all of his destructive policies. They promise one thing at election time, and when they get to DC they do another.

There is a Supreme Court vacancy. As it stands now, the GOPe will do what ever is in it’s power to let obama have his pick. They will put up a fake fight, and in the end secretly rejoice that some lefty got the job because the Uniparty status quo will be maintained. They will get their perks, payoffs, privileges and whatever motivates these crooks. To get a conservative Justice along with the prospect of a Cruz or a Trump is very frightening to them.

The Republican party as it stands right now, must go away in order to save America.

Honestly, I won't feel like we're heading in a good direction until the DC elite and their paymasters have to retreat to their gated communities, private islands and other barricaded safe houses.

A true Constitutional Conservative, USA-first reformed Republican Party will then easily win the election.

I don't see how any other path brings us anything but chaos and the end of civilization as we used to know it.

“Problem is: is that the candidates are going along with this charade... “

You said it!
What happened to those guys, a couple of debates in, who refused to attack each other and attacked the moderators for asking stupid questions? This last debate was a train wreck.

And DJT is helping by bringing up settled issues over a dozen years old. All of which make them look like squabbling kids; and thereby making the Dems look like the adults ... is this the GOP/Conservative plan - throw the election to the Dems by incessant displays of political stupidity?

I think we should start the discussion with whether we really need the political party system any longer. Perhaps there was a time when a party was necessary because of limited means to communicate with the public, but that is no longer the case today. Let who ever wants to run for office make their case to the American people directly in whatever vast media format(s) they choose without political party labeling. Let the states hold the election and be done with it.

The republican party died a long time ago so why does it become such a great issue now? There needs to be a third party

Senator Cruz, you can be CERTAIN, will do everything in his power to stop this nomination process dead in its tracks. He is the ONLY person running for POTUS who can actually do something about it other than run his mouth.

To say that Trump’s election would be a rejection of limited government means that the author either hasn’t been paying attention, is ignorant, or is outright lying. Trump is SHOWING US how he would reduce the size of government by the way he has dramatically reduced the size of his own campaign apparatus.

But he is correct that it means a rejection of internationalism. YOU DAMN RIGHT! Trump is a patriot to his core & an America First NATIONALIST.

Besides the fact that he is dishonest & a flaming fraud, the best reason to reject Ted Cruz is because he is a globalist. He doesn’t give a flip about America- only his blind ambition. He Exhibits- He *HAS EXHIBITED* NO LOYALTY TO AMERICA. TPA/ TPP, the Corker bill, wanting to increase H1B visas. . . the list goes on.

But then, what did we expect? Look at his upbringing & look at Trump’s.

With the imminent Republican/Obama appointment of another leftist fanatic to the Court the Constitution finally loses its last fig leaf of existence and the rule by Dictator led bureaucracy will become de jure after decades of growing ever more de facto. The first two amendments will be publicly shredded within a year of the installation of the new communist associate justice.

When I 1st got involved in voting and following politics the only terms used were democrat and republican. I voted republican, but not long after that I realized I really wasn’t a republican, I was a conservative. It was a few years before it was common to call people conservatives.

Being from the farm, when I got into the corporate world, my values were no where near what passed as republicans. Additionally I attended some republican functions like Lincoln day...and realized I really didn’t fit in with them folks.

So I just telling people I was a conservative. LOL they didn’t really know what it meant and neither did I. I just knew what it didn’t mean.

I may be Tea Party now, I’m just now sure exactly what is Tea Party and how they differ from conservative.
