According to the Obama administration, because Obama's mother was U.S. citizen and because he was reportedly born in Hawaii, he has the necessary qualifications to be President. But many, dubbed "birthers" by Obama supporters, still believe he was born in Kenya. If true, the argument goes, he would not be qualified to hold the Executive office because regardless of his mother's citizenship, he was not born on U.S. soil. The latter is a legitimate argument and one that appears to be supported by the Constitution, though no court has ever clearly defined the meaning of a "natural born citizen."
Republican Presidential candidate Ted Cruz has a similar problem as he was born in Canada. Unlike Senator John McCain, who was born on a U.S. military base in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936, Cruz was born in Canadian and on Canadian land.
Cruz argues that because his mother is a U.S. citizen, and because he had dual nationality and renounced his Canadian citizenship after he turned 18, qualifies as a natural born citizen.
But according to a report from Karl Denninger at The Market Ticker, Canadian law in 1970 when Cruz was born makes it clear that no such dual nationality existed at the time, making it impossible for Cruz to have been a Canadian citizen AND a U.S. citizen at the same time:
There's a clean question on the table regarding dual citizenship for persons born in Canada prior to 1977 (when they changed their law to officially recognize dual nationality.)
Prior to that date, with few exceptions, you could not hold dual nationality with Canada. In other words the very act of "renouncing" Canadian Citizenship means that Cruz never held US citizenship at birth because his parents had to declare his nationality at the time he was born.

Canadian law has no legal bearing on US law. The relevant laws are described in U.S.C Title 8 section 1401 - Citizen at birth.
FAKE!! Ted Cruz’s birth records are sealed
Related to the birther issue (addressed below), the claim that Cruz is hiding his birth records seems to have been made first by J.B. Williams of NewsWithViews.com (also see here) in December:
“All citizenship records for Ted Cruz are sealed unless and until Ted Cruz agrees to allow any such records to be released by either U.S. or Canadian agencies.”
Williams does not provide sources for his claim, which was unsurprisingly repeated at the Marshall Report.
J.B. Williams appears to be a disgruntled former Obama birther, as well.
The fact that there is absolutely no basis for this charge does not stop Cruz birthers from making the fake claim all over social media.
Thought a Conservative Constitutionalists are open and transparent about their Constitutionality. Provide the documentation.
Maybe his BC is hidden with Hillary’s emails?
Pray America wakes
Action from some one like Ben Carson or Chris Christy needs to bring this forth. As a prosecutor Christy would have to know how, but Ben has the most damage ( would be the most successful plaintiff).
After SC
One is NATURALLY a US citizen when one cannot be anything else.
Born here of citizen parents.
Natural born citizen.
Any documents that he does have would be contemporaneous. He of course has no U.S. Birth certificate. I guess we are trusting the Canadian government to establish that he was born there. Trust but verify.. Where did I hear that?
Seems logical.
This is really loathsome.
As if a person has any control over, or responsibility for, their birthplace.
Pretty desperate stuff if this is all they got on Cruz.
Why waste your time with this on the internet? Take him to court.
Cruz is hiding something by keeping his records seal.
Canadian law regarding dual citizenship in 1970 is a nullity in US courts. It doesn't matter if Canadian law made him a citizen, a non-citizen, or a rodent.
What matters is the governing US law at the time, and if natural born status is suitable for a child of an alien father born in a foreign land.
His status as assigned by Canada is irrelevant, just as would be a law passed by Mexico declaring Donald Trump a natural-born Mexican.
Oh, so he does have a U.S. BIrth certificate? And, as far as I know, if you are a U.S. Citizen you still have to pay taxes on income earned outside the U.S. Do people born in Canada of U.S. Citizens pay income tax when they become adults if they stay in Canada? Of course not, but why not? Aren’t they natural born citizens owing allegiance to the country they were kinda sorta born in metaphysically speaking?
“Rafael Cruz, another politician that refuses to show documentation proving he’s eligible to be president.”
It wouldn’t matter. Nothing he could produce would convince a birther loon.
From the link....
Whatever the case, should Ted Cruz win the Republican primary, you better believe his eligibility status will come into question by “birthers” in the Democrat Party.
The responsible thing for Ted Cruz to do right now is to admit this will become a question in coming months and to take himself to court or before Congress to determine, unequivocally, whether or not he is eligible to be President of the United States, or for that matter, whether or not he is eligible to be a United States Senator.
“As if a person has any control over, or responsibility for, their birthplace.”
But it does has consequences. Just because you want to be the US prez doesn’t mean you get to.
There is also the issue of Cruz defending a Chinese tire company in its attempt to steal patents from an American company.
The CRBA can prove he is a citizen, and at the same time, a CRBA probves he is naturalized.
Does it matter at all what the Framers thought the phrase natural born citizen meant when they PUT IT IN THE CONSTITUTION?
