But the other concept of dignity is that "human dignity is intrinsic to being human, and as long as you're human, you have dignity, and you must be respected in the way that all humans need to be respected."
The danger of adopting the former concept of dignity, Somerville said, is that anyone who is seen as not having dignity "can be disposed of."
And this is nothing more than a death panel by a different name.

But you see, they DO WANT the elderly be forced (er, consulted) into choosing death! They just can’t say that in public.
Yet.
The quicker the old white guys are gone, the better for the new moslem nation.
Canada kills old people. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. They don’t have death panels, per se, they simply deny and delay care until they get the desired outcome.
They are barbarians. I know this will come as a surprise to many Canadians, who generally are proud of their Healthcare system. I tell them “wait until you get old”
It may vary here and there by province, but the truth is there for Canadians to deny. It’s still the truth. I know this to be true, unfortunately.
Benton Fraser and Inspector Meg Thatcher need to get on the case.
Leftism is essentially atheistic, because it has to be. Thus leftists see funerals as opportunities for political rallies, since they imagine no life after death. To them, the dead are nothing—ashes.
That attitude translates to those nearing death. They are seen as just “taking space and resources”, since they will no longer contribute to society. Or really, to leftism. This is why, to leftists, people are expendable waste.
In turn, this translates as contempt for the living and unborn. Leftists respect no one. They are ultimately self centered and vain. But their vanity is its own punishment.
They despise God, but they try to carve out a niche to hide in, away from God. As such, they try to create their own Hell - a place removed from God.
This is how it is when your country nationalizes health care. All of the most private, intimate details of your personal care decisions become a political football, played out in the press and in government hearings.
More than a decade ago, my aunt was in a nursing home, doing fairly well despite a stroke on her dominant right side. The home picked up her food tray after 30 min. and documented that she rejected food.
It just took her longer than 30 min. to eat with her left hand. She was losing weight. A relative asked for a feeder to help her eat within the 30 min. Unfortunately the person provided for feeding assistance was sent by a hospice. Auntie unwittingly signed the papers.
Soon after, she died painfully of a heart attack. She begged for medical care, which was denied under the terms of the hospice contract. Her palliative care consisted of a Tylenol. She suffered in pain and frustration for 12 hours. At the core of her sweet soul, Auntie was trusting—a fatal mistake then and now.
And why do you think that palliative care is so bad?
So people will choose to die.
‘Palliative Care’..........nice euphemism...................for DEATH................
It was 'better' in the original German:
We don’t do all that great on palliative care. Our “drug warriors” hsve doctors scared silly to prescribe effective levels of pain relief, even in terminal patients suffering excruciating pain. God forbid someone die a possible “addict” rather than a less painful emd of life.
The horror stories come from large cities like Toronto and in Alberta, such as Edmonton. Referring to our neighbours in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, we have good reports of how they cope. On the other hand in the main cities in the Lower Peninsula it may be different.
Again simply conditions vary from area to area. The bigger the city, very often the bigger the problem.
Isn’t that the point of socialist “care”??? TO KILL YOU!
Bloodless ghouls.
I work with elderly and this sickens me. Is this US or Canada? Was she on Medicaid?
