Hall noted that just yesterday, the former president of Mexico called Trump's idea for a wall "stupid," adding that "we are not going to pay any single cent." Probing how he plans to get Mexico to pay for his wall, Trump responded, "Mexico makes a fortune. Mexico is going to pay. And I heard he said that we will not pay. Guess what? The wall just got higher."

My first edict (Obama-style) would be to assess a transfer tax on ANY USPS money order, Western Union, or any other money transfer to anyone in Mexico a 10% minimum charge.

Call it a ‘reparations’ tax.

I’d like to hear an estimate how many jobs it creates compared to the $800 billion that Obama couldn’t figure out how to spend because there weren’t enough shovel-ready jobs.

I realize it won’t be enough jobs to stop a recession, but Ds always want to spend more public money on construction projects “because jobs”.

Last year remittances amounted to almost $25 billion, a 20% tax on that would pay it off in short order.

When do we get a crack at the ill-gotten gains of El Chapo?

“...don’t forget about the tunnels.”

Tall (and even taller) walls have deep footings...

Just a thought.

Take ALL the money.

The other thing is. Cargo containers going south are not inspected like traffic coming north.

Inspect all traffic going through check points BEFORE it gets to the border and distribution houses.

Tons of drug money and illegal gambling (oops) money can be obtained in this fashion.

Yeah, but if the Mexicans have to pay for it, they get to build it from their side using cheap Mexican labor!

This.

And This: Remittances in 2015 exceed oil revenue.

I’ve never understood why they destroy the tunnels. Why not just follow the rats as they come out, track them hither and yon, and make bust after bust?

Remittances sent home by Mexicans working outside the country surpassed petroleum revenues in 2015 for the first time
most of which comes from the U.S., to total US $24.8 billion last year

20% ought to cover the start of the wall and requires NO LEGISLATION, just a simple Administrative Regulation!!!!!

Right now you have thousands of hardworking unemployed oilfield workers in Texas. Need I say more?

What will the cost be of deporting millions of illegals, including the court costs to fight the many cases. Currently there is a court case of a 30-year illegal to be deported for drunk driving repeatedly. He claims he needs to stay for his family.Multiply this case by tens of thousands, many funded by rights groups.

What will the cost be of processing them after they touchback and are readmitted?\

And on what planet does that make sense?

You are correct. Too bad it’s gotten to this point but we can’t seem to take care of our own but can find instant gratification for trespassers. What’s wrong with that picture? Never did like the idea of rewarding bad/illegal behavior.

Hmmm. Hasn’t the “wall” already been approved but not funded.

because once they are in, Obama allows them to stay while awaiting court proceedings which they will never show up for.

And while they are here... they start pumping out babies, which are then US citizens.

So your solution is to legalize them all I guess. No thanks.

Blanket NATIONAL will and strong, ENFORCED law would negate a lot of what you are willing to use as excuses.

I don’t want TOUCHBACK and REPROCESSING. They are, in fact, felons.

Immigration is not a Constitutional right; it is a privilege of convenience and utility to the good of the nation as whole. Nowhere do our laws say we “must have immigration” at ANY level.

Trump can't impose a tax unilaterally.

Yes, I know all the stuff Obama has done, but that is either via regulatory authority that was granted by prior legislation, or by executive orders to federal employees not to do certain things.

To put it differently, if it was possible for a President to unilaterally impose a new tax, don't you think Obama would have done it?

Trump can't collect money from Mexico unless Congress passes the appropriate legislation.
