They were part of our history. They were responsible for the formation of a strong Navy and Marines. Jefferson founded them when the Barbary Coast Muslims started cutting the heads off of Americans. They wore leather to protect their necks, and thus were called leathernecks (most people know that story, but I added it because maybe some have not.)

Twice elected ...
Now Bernie Sanders ...
To: SJackson
Maybe he meant to say America has always been at war with Islam?
To: SJackson
America’s first foreign war was against the Barbary Pirates culminating with the Battle of Tripoli. It was against the forces of Islam.

"Slavery...all too often was justified in the name of Christ."
Fact - Muslims enslave more people that any other religion on Earth. Slavery was a universal institution, globally and throughout history, until Christians turned against the institution in the past few centuries. That is, Christianity was not an exception in tolerating slavery for the first millennium and a half, that was not a distinguishing characteristic of the religion over that period. OTOH Slavery was eliminated - to the extent that it truly has been - because of the influence of Christians, and for no other reason. No other religious system (atheism, e.g. the USSR, not excluded) ever delegitimated slavery. Conversely, no one other than Christians in the American South ever wrote treatises justifying slavery because they were the only ones who had slaves and cared about antislavery propaganda coming from Christians.

Would muslims have written, or ratified,
this?
Done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven and of the Independence of the United States of America the Twelfth.
Pardon my skepticism . . .

There is one positive early connection. The largely Hindu Kingdom of Mysore, then rules by Tipu Sultan, recognized the United States of America. The Second AngloâMysore War (1780â1784) occurred at the end of the American Revolution as the French and local allies tried and failed to push Britain out of India.

Perhaps such loathing in general for the majority Christian colonial population explains why only four or so Americans with Muslim-sounding names fought for the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.
