Oregon standoff: LaVoy Finicum memorial torn down, reward offered for answers

Somebody tore down the memorial erected in honor of Robert "LaVoy" Finicum, the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupier who was shot and killed last month by Oregon State Police.

The base of the cross still stood Saturday, Feb. 6, not far from the rural road on which Finicum died Jan. 26. A wilted rose and scattered leaves lay next to it, and a piece of broken lumber sat just behind it, A pocket New Testament was propped against the remains of the cross, next to a patch of the American flag. A horseshoe lay in the dirty snow.......

The destruction of the memorial seemed to carry a particular sting for BJ Soper, one of the leaders of the Pacific Patriots Network, a coalition of groups who protest perceived government overreach.

Soper was planning to conduct a memorial with other coalition members by Finicum's cross at 1 p.m. Saturday, but those plans changed after he saw what happened.

"We're going to buy every damn flag in this town and hang (the cross) back up," he said.......

I'm not sure what to make of this....sad.

But diverting my emotions to it doesn't change the fact that the FBI is besieging four people who for better or worse have occupied that refuge steadfastly and expect to be the next "LaVoy's".

They deserve concern and a response of some sort.

My hope would be nonviolent approaches to the FBI siege lines to see if they trigger a violent response.

If the FBI goes violent again it will only pour gasoline on the fire of violent emotions raging in my people's hearts right now.

My hope would be nonviolent approaches to the FBI siege lines to see if they trigger a violent response.

My understanding was that the PPN cancelled a plan to march in and evacuate the protesters because the protesters said they would violently resist the attempt.

They don't want a peaceful ending because that means going to jail.

I have a feeling the last 4 guys out there are going to get hungry and quit given enough time.

During the seige, the FBI used Bradley Fighting Vehicles to drive over the graves of those killed in the initial shoot-out.

And THEN they did THIS.

Frankly, the FBI is a criminal terrorist organisation. There’s really no other description for them.

The PPN people were planning to end the occupation under the guise of a ‘rescue mission’ today.

The folks inside are committed to the course set by Ammon Bundy and his father, Cliven, who may been involved behind the scenes.

They expect to die and that may happen.

My sense of nonviolence is formed by the experiences of Operation Rescue which I witnessed as a journalist and the history of Dr. Martin Luther King.

It would be good if people without weapons and no hatred or malice simply walked into the FBI lines to promote the release of the Hammonds and asking law enforcement to leave, which is what Ammon Bundy called for in his message from jail the other day.

If the remaining guys want to commit suicide by cop, there isn’t much that law enforcement can do to prevent it. Maybe they should see if the Russians can let them have any of that gas they used in the theater siege a few years ago.

J. Edgar Hoover has been demonized by the Left for being gay because he fought them tooth and nail as FBI Director.

Hoover fought Gangsters, Communists, Nazis and the Klan.

If he were with us today fighting those same kind of people he’d have to be looking for them in the FBI itself.

“Law” enforcement can just sit tight is what they can do about it.

All they have to do is wait these guys out. The occupiers aren’t receiving the type of support they had hoped, a critical miscalculation.

But there is no harm being done to anything or anyone except by “law” enforcement.

Leave them be and at some point, they’ll wander away and can be picked up in a much less confrontational situation.

As it stands right now, if they go in like Waco I’m not sure those who are pretty ambivalent about this will let that slide.

Yeah, the FBI and their friends should just walk away. Its not like they cannot pick these guys up elsewhere at a time of their choosing.

The feds are purposely provoking a reaction here, and they expect to get away with the subsequent killings (murders, really). And, most likely they will..

They could have with Koresh...he used to go for daily jogs around the area, went into town, many times alone.

He could have been picked up numerous times, AWAY from the compound with the women and children.

But no, they had to go in like wanna be SEALs and show just who had the power and in the process, intimidate the actual innocent ones. When they got their nose bloodied, that ticked them off and there was a blood lust, those folks were going to pay.

Pay they did and the perpetrators of that slaughter walked away scot free...I hope their nights are filled with sleepless nights or nightmares of those innocents burning and choking to death on the smoke and flames.
