Four days after winning the Iowa caucuses, Cruz's team is still struggling to answer questions about whether it relied on trickery to pad its lead by convincing Iowans that Carson - a rival for evangelical votes - was dropping out of the race. What the Cruz campaign initially called a knee-jerk response to ambiguous news reports has been revealed to be a more coordinated effort to steer Carson voters to the Cruz camp amid the chaotic caucus atmosphere.
A campaign of tweets, emails and calls to Cruz precinct captains encouraged the rapid spread of the news that Carson would be leaving the race and that a vote for him would be a "waste." The Cruz camp denies that it did anything other than pass along accurate news reports.
Anecdotal evidence has emerged that some voters who had intended to back Carson changed their minds after hearing the news. And perhaps more significantly, a pile-on by Cruz's opponents has kept the pressure on the Texas senator's campaign.
In at least one case, the misinformation left its mark. Waterloo resident Becky Smith said she stepped into the George Washington Carver Academy to cast her first-ever vote in the Iowa caucuses for Carson. She registered onsite as a Republican, switching her affiliation as an independent, so she could cast her ballot. But a man helping distribute ballots - she didn't know his name or campaign affiliation - said he had just heard that Carson was "suspending his campaign."

Drip, drip, drip.
What did he know, and when did he know it?
So these rumors are being used now to push down his own numbers.
Thought it was determined by now it was Rubio’s camp that started spreading the rumors that Carson was dropping out.

so funny NOW the Cruz campaign manager is frantically trying to get ahold of Carson’s people to try to make this nightmare go away .. Carson’s people must be feeling some major Schadenfreude on this one
Boy, Steve King turned out to be a creep as well. Apologized to Carson but is still saying he was going to drop out. Nice guy!
Nixonian Cruz.
Blame it on a YouTube video
Or from delusional supporters.
What if Cruz gave him two delegates? Would that make people happy? Rush suggested that the other day.
Lol, they found one person and they aren’t even sure it was a Cruz supporter who said this.
The Cruz supporters did stand up at every site and give a speech to urge support to Cruz. These were quite public and all voters could hear the speech. Many sites had cameras running.
Did any of these speeches pass on the information that Carson dropped out? I haven’t seen any evidence they did.
Thank you for the link. This incident is blown out of proportion by several folks for different reasons:
Trump-to attack Cruz, until he realized that Rubio is his bigger problem in NH.
Carson-to make himself relevant again
GOP establishment media- to elevate Rubio by bringing down one of his major opponents-Greta looks like the main cheerleader
The Cruz campaign is trying to tell us that they accepted, as true, without verification, a "breaking news" story from CNN? Aren't these the same folks who discount any anti-Cruz story from a liberal news source because they aren't reliable?
No matter which side of this you’re on, the fact is, it’s become a tar baby for Cruz that won’t be easily shaken.
I couldn’t care less at this point what Cruz does because the deed is done and everybody knows about it now,, voters can decide their own opinions on the matter when they go vote.. on to NH and SC!
Have you ever worked in a real live political campaign?
Have you ever watched sausage being made?
Spot on, Lake.
they did it right in front of Mrs. Carson at the caucus site she was at.. where have you been?
Look it up.
We real Constitutional Conservatives never stopped being disgusted about the way the primary runoff was stolen for Cochran. If Cruz didn't get that and hadn't schooled his campaign staff about what an important issue running a legal AND decent campaign is, he doesn't really understand our issues.
