Video Shows Tens Of Thousands Massing At Turkey Border As Russia, Iran Bear Down On Key Syrian City
Zero Hedge ^ | 5 Feb 2016 | Tyler Durden

On Thursday we brought you the latest from Syria, where Hezbollah and the IRGC have encircled Aleppo and cut off rebel supply lines to Turkey.

It was months in the making, but it now appears that the city - Syria's second largest - will soon be retaken by forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad. As we've explained in the past, that would effectively restore the President's grip on power as he would effectively control most of the country’s urban centers - even if that "control" is tenuous.

Eastern Syria is of course a different story entirely, as ISIS is dug in at Raqqa, the group’s self-styled capital. If the rebels lose Aleppo, it will represent a huge blow to the effort to topple Assad’s government. Saudi Arabia and Turkey know this, which is presumably why Erdogan was busy criticizing the Russian airstrikes that have facilitated the Hezbollah advance yesterday and why Riyadh now says it's prepared to send in ground troops (to "fight ISIS").

Now, as the Russian air campaign continues unabated and Shiite fighters advance on the city, civilians are fleeing what they anticipate will be a bloody battle.

Russia v Turkey has been done repeatedly before. The nearest to a “World War” was the Crimean War.

Turkey probably should not be in NATO right now anyway. SO...let the Russkies and Turks fight it out.

Evolution of my thoughts in a few sentences.

- For years we’d heard about how Assad senior oppressed the population and the massacre he’d carried out in Homs.
- The Rebels were an outgrowth of the Arab Spring, and we heard what freedom fighters they were.
- Most of them were co-opted or killed by ISIS, who killed and abused the Christians in a way that had never happened under either Assad
- Obama’s Muslim sympathies became ever-more clear over the years. His allegiances—give Iran anything for a figleaf atom agreement—while siding against them with the Turks—became ever more conflicted.
- Russia couldn’t stand it. Was it the abuse of the CHristians or a power play to maintain a Mediterranean port? Probably both.
- NATO is completely confused.
- Our bombing activities against ISIS were fake, because Obama won’t harm Muslims if he can avoid it.
- Order is absolutely necessary in that part of the world, even with an autocratic power structure on top.

Conclusion: While everybody sucks some, our allies—Turkey and ISIS (debate it if you will) suck more for the Christians and probably the Israelis and most of the Syrians more than the disorder that would be imposed by the rebels in our name.

So, Russia is more in the right here than Turkey and, by extension Obama.

The battle of Aleppo has been a long time coming

Got to wonder how many of the rats fleeing Aleppo are not Syrian but among the tens of thousands of “foreign fighters” trained and infiltrated via Turkey

What the AP and Rooters are calling “rebel held” is actually Al Qaeda *Nusra”,
ISIS and a bunch of other hardline islamists who would and will never cooperate in a coalition reform government with Assad or anyone else and who are more than wiling to use the civilian population as “muslim armor” . Their goal is an islamic state.

it is unfortunate but there is no other way to resolve this than battle unitil one side is finally defeated.

And I quite agree with you.

An earlier story was saying these Muslim people fleeing were women and children and the elderly with few fighting age males.

That video shows plenty of fighting age males in the group, who are fleeing to Turkey.
More Jihadists for Europe to contend with.
And if Obama can do it, more for us to contend with.-Tom

I saw Shep on FOX a few minutes ago braying about the proxy war between the US/NATO and Russia. He’s such a gay ass, and he has it wrong. It’s a proxy war between Obama and Erdogan... and Russia.

I am sick and tired of know nothing jerks like schelp pontificating on all manner of crap they don’t know a dang thing about. Geez, he is an airhead and needs to just report the news not comment on it.

All these jerks and their commentary and opinions telling the sheeple what to think is probably one of the biggest sources of chaos in the world today. What we do here is ring fenced under the heading of debate, a much different pursuit.
