To control the spread of Zika, Puerto Rico government orders price freeze on condoms

(English translation)

In the wake of scores of [Zika] cases that have been reported in eastern Puerto Rico and due to fears that it will spread to other municipalities, Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO) Secretary Nery Adames announced that the agency added condoms to the list of price freezes related to Zika-virus prevention due to the alleged relationship to sexual transmission.

"Because of the causal relationship that has been established between a mosquito bite and the probability of sexual transmission, a price freeze on prophylactics and/or preservatives has been ordered. Therefore, every store, service station, place, or business that sells this type of item must know that DACO will come knocking on your door to ensure that the public is being allowed to protect itself adequately," the Secretary announced during a press conference at the Governor's Mansion.

As [the] Metro [press agency] reported, Adames alerted the public that any product that helps prevent the spread of Zika such as repellents and pesticides, among others, remains under the price-freeze order the agency issued last week. He also reiterated that any unusual change in the sale of the products must be reported to DACO.

IIRC, it is also spread in saliva, so no kissing either.

Hey, you can’t blame Puerto Rico for not being original.

They are way more focused on birth control and abortion, than they are on killing the mosquitos. Does anyone else find that really creepy?

While currently banned, isn’t DDT use allowed in emergency situations such as this?

Price freeze on condoms? Look for the supply of condoms to diminish and vanish in the coming months.

So can any Governor just order what ever he wants now? Could the Governor of Wyoming order that all 20 round boxes of .22 Long Rifle ammo be priced at $1.99?

Seems like Obama's example is changing our form of government at the local level.

I don't know much about the specifics of Puerto Rican government except that it's supposed to be very corrupt and it is totally broke - as in "default on our bonds" broke.

Maybe they should give the mosquitos the condoms.

Price freeze on insect spray. My guess is that they will quickly run out and then it will be sold on the black market.

Buy insect spray stock. This summer is going to be a doosey
