Surging Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio has vaulted into second place in the key state of New Hampshire, just five days before its first-in-the nation primary, a new poll released Thursday showed.

The Florida senator got the support of 15% of likely GOP New Hampshire voters, leapfrogging Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, the latest University of Massachusetts-Lowell poll showed.

Bombastic billionaire Donald Trump remained the front-runner in the state with a whopping 36%, while Cruz came in third with 14%.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Ohio Gov. John Kasich came in third and fourth, with 8% and 7%, respectively.

No other candidate received more than 5% support.

After promising to win Iowa, Republican canidate Donald Trump just barely escaped finishing in third.

The poll, which comes out daily, showed Rubio gained three percentage points overnight and seven since his strong third place finish in the Iowa caucuses Monday.

Rubio placed third with 23.1% in Iowa, just 1.2 percentage points behind Trump, who had been forecast to finish first.

A second-place in New Hampshire would add to momentum for Rubio as the race looks toward the South Carolina and Super Tuesday primaries.

The only candidate I hear TV advertising here in TX is Rubio, basically using Trump’s words against Cruz, and Criz’s against Trump, the Marco says they’re both right and he is the only candidate to vote for.

I don’t want Rubio for president. He looks like a 12 year old.

Then again, maybe he’d balance out old Trumpie.

Much more material w/ Cruz. Trump will shut Rubio down on immigration when the time comes.

Perhaps, but isn’t the popular thought that if Trump loses NH after having such a large lead in the polls right on the heels of losing Iowa, that he’s damaged goods?

Liberal Republicans love Rubio.

Not as much as the crossover Dems. They want Rubio because Hillary will have him for lunch. She will look much more experienced. But Rubio's main problem is his less-than-truthful autobiography. Hillary will deflect from her own felonies by pointing to that.

Well, the time's almost come and gone, if Trump's really serious about making his words hit pay dirt on Rubio!

Trump's not been on to ho,d back on anyone but maybe he's still stinging about losing to Cruz!

Maybe Trump and Rubio will double tag team Cruz and leave poor Ted dumb founded!

Could be...however, it’s all about the delegate count so if he loses those but stays in and close in delegate count then wins some winner take all states, he’s back on top. Just depends on the delegate count, and if he’s in it for the long haul.
