The DOE(both of them) and the EPA must absolutely be abolished if we are to have any chance of restoring the Republic. They ARE the government. Even Cruz or Trump will not be able to accomplish much in the United States if these agencies continue to exist. They will use all available resources to undermine a conservative or even a Republican President.
Any and all federal involvement in (the various states’) education...is completely unconstitutional.

Exactly! How else can a president's WIFE dictate what's on a child's plate lunch at school?!? The entire fricken FEDGOV has turned into a racket and the GOPe is the 'smoke and mirrors' arm of it!
That was pretty much limited to school lunches and reimbursement for expenses to school districts that had large military populations in the districts. Teachers unions are only a small portion of the problem. School districts/state education boards will comply with any mandate from the feds in order to get those dollars.

I wish more people realized that this is a major tool in how the viewpoint of our youth is shaped and the consequences of that. The Department of Education and the Teacher Unions have so much control. All anyone needs to do is take a look at the curriculum.
I’m close to the point of giving up. No one seems to care enough to change anything.
