INDIAN WELLS, Calif. â Donald Trump is so fiercely opposed by the Koch brothers network that some donors believe the powerful group will intervene to stop the billionaire if it looks like he could win the Republican presidential nomination.
"They are always very hesitant to get involved in a primary, but I think if they were going to do it, this would be the time because they just hate the guy,â said a donor who attended the Koch networkâs winter retreat, held over the weekend at a luxury resort on the edge of Coachella Valley.
Both officials and donors within Charles and David Koch's powerful group hope the real estate tycoon's White House bid dies a natural death so the group can avoid spending a penny of its $889 million 2016 cycle budget against him. But the Koch network's conversations over the weekend concerning what to do about Trump were more detailed than previously revealed. On the eve of the Iowa causes, Koch network officials revealed in a private meeting with donors that they had commissioned focus group research to identify Trumpâs vulnerabilities.
And some influential figures in the group â which held its largest gathering ever, with 500 donors attending the weekend gathering â believe that action against Trump would be needed if he emerges dominant out of the Feb. 9 primary in New Hampshire, where he holds a commanding lead in polls.
During a private planning session on Sunday morning, a senior Koch official ran through every presidential candidate, analyzing each one's strengths and weaknesses, said a source who attended the session.

Rubios leash handlers.
Rubio could end up walking away with this. his path is pretty clear.
They’re implicitly admitting they can influence/choose our leaders.
Isn’t this election going to be a fight between Billionaires?
Rove said there would be “surprises” ... here it comes
Rubio still looks like he’s running for class president or something.
Cruz...won tonight, give him that. But nobody who has ever worked with him has ever said a kind word about him. Polished, intelligent...not sure about his electability long term and the Canada thing will loom large.
Rubio, weak on immigration, not tough enough overall. Too young, too establishment.
Trump, crush Isis, build a wall, stop muslim immigration, close mosques. Hey, good enough for me.
The crotch brothers can kiss my Scottish ass!
Donald should just take a contract out on the Koch brothers
They buy off our elected representatives and turn our votes into leashes around our necks.
Yup. Now they’ve got their fair-haired boy. Rubio will pick up tons of media attention and campaign funds from this.
All of Yeb!s backers will flock to the one guy who’ll play ball and actually has a chance.
Rubio is now a problem for both Ted and Don’s camps.
when was the last time one wasn’t, behind the scenes at least?
incredible.
Interesting. Cruz may have won the caucus but tonight’s real winner, if you really think about it, was Marco Rubio. Now the Koch Brothers and all the other GOPe money bundlers are gonna be giving funds left and right to Rubio ensuring he’ll be able to compete with Trump and Cruz well into March and maybe beyond. His finishing a close third tonight was the worst thing that could of happened. Now the GOPe is inspired because they got a second wind, and now they’re gonna go all out to take down Cruz and Trump.
Never underestimate the potential of the ruling class to do the worst thing for the people
Moned people obosing Trump, about damned time.
Agreed
The “pro illegal immigration, pro-Chamber, and pro-GOPe” Koch Brothers.
3 in 4 young black Americans say theyâd feel like fleeing the country if Donald Trump were elected

Why?
Now sense denying it, Rubio could win it all. I just don’t get it. I would love Cruz and Rubio if I believed they would be anti-globalist. Immigration main issue. We have to won that war and Cruz/Rubio don;t convince me they will do anything significant on the issue.
