NY Times: Trump 'Solid Bet' to Win GOP Nomination

The New York Times considers Donald Trump a "solid" bet to win the Republican presidential nomination — with a slightly better than 50 percent chance of becoming the GOP's candidate.

"Mr. Trump is the clear favorite," Justin Wolfers, a professor of economics and public policy at the University of Michigan, writes in The Times' "Upshot" column.

Basing his opinion on PredictWise.com, which tracks political prediction markets where traders bet on who will win, Wolfers says Trump leads with 51 percent, followed by Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida with 33 percent.

Much farther behind are Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas in third place with 8 percent and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in fourth with 6 percent.

I mean, 50% is not exactly a “solid bet” is it? I guess depends on what odds you’re getting.

NY Times is hoping for Trump, knowing full well that it is going to be Progressive-vs-Progressive matchup in the general election, which is a Win-Win for the Progressives.

Doubtful. Trump is going to chew up and spit out any Dem running against him. Hillary or Bernie.

I’ll bet the plebes at NYT are just puking in their shoes right now. Love it!

Uh, it does not matter whether or not Trump wins the general. He is a progressive and will work for the progressive agenda. He might throw a few crumbs your way, but his agenda will be progressive. Unfortunately for him, Hillary will destroy Trump. You can’t out-progressive a democrat.

This guy is just giving his prediction as one Op-Ed columnist...not the entire paper.

The New York Times considers Donald Trump a "solid" bet to win

They're hoping! They're down right giddy with the thought.

All geaked up to elect someone promising universal health care and business as usual government buyoffs with big subsidies. Thank God we found a good conservative that will stop the growing government leviathon before it swallows us all up.

NY Times is hoping for Trump

Wrong.

The only person with an (R) behind their name the Times actually said would be okay was McCain. They said so in an early editorial when he was running for the nomination in 2008.

So far, there has been continuous disdain toward Trump in the NYT/MSM coverage.

The idea he is loved by progressives is either a statement to buttress another candidate, just plain ignorant, or both.

Trump may not be loved by progressives and Trump may claim disdain for progressives, but Trump is a progressive. The old dog can’t be taught new tricks. His viewpoints are progressive. He is the typical Northeastern Elite. He has been given a pass by many conservatives because they FEAR him and project that fear on to the democrats. Unfortunately, democrats do not fear Trump. Democrats and their media ally will destroy Trump before September.
