http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/feb/1/signe-anderson-original-airplane-singer-dead-at-74/

Excerpt:

But by the time the album came out, Anderson had given birth to her first child and she left after a farewell concert at the Fillmore in October 1966....

“You have to look at the priorities in your life, the reality in your life,” Anderson told radio station KGON in Portland in 2011, remembering the ordeals of bringing her baby on tour. “I had to wait in the San Francisco airport in July of 1966 for 36 hours before we got on the airplane and flew to Chicago. All the diapers were gone.”

“I don’t regret having left,” she added.

Anderson was a footnote in the Airplane’s history, but was regarded with respect and affection by fans and stayed in touch with Kantner, Balin and other band members with whom she performed on occasion over the following decades....

Airplane guitarist Jorma Kaukonen wrote on his blog that Anderson was “our den mother in the early days of the Airplane” a voice of reason for “our dysfunctional little family.” Balin, writing on Facebook, imagined that she and Kantner “woke up in heaven and said ‘Hey what are you doing here? Let’s start a band.’”

They did an early cover of “Get Together”; the song the Youngbloods had a hit with. I enjoyed that, that first album is rather folk music-like.

It was amazing how much Grace looked like Katy Perry

Perry is nothing more than a media creation, just a pretty face with a phony foundation...

watch the video of grace Slick at Altamont; the situation, of course, degenerated quickly due to the Hells Angels, but if you want to see drop dead, mouth watering beautiful watch her in the intro...

Anderson and Kantner both lived longer than my father. RIP all three of you.

they lived sixteen years more than my brother in law, five more than my father in law...so 74 being too young, is a relative (no pun intended) proposition indeed...

'early cover of "Get Together" the song the Youngbloods had a hit with'

Written by Jesse Oris Farrow, actually Chet Powers, aka Dino Valenti when he was lead singer of Quicksilver Messenger Service

Lets say one of them lives fifty years or more after they form the band.

That is around 20,000 days of time.

To have the other band member die on the same day: one in 20,000.

Died the same day as Paul Kantner, what are the odds?

Same odds as John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both passing on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence?

Or, the same odds as my 5 YO grandson affixing the decals of the Broncos and Panthers to the back of his tablet...about 3 months ago?

Or the same odds as my son's 8th grade team losing by 5 in the consolation game on Saturday, while being outshot 26-0 in free throws? If I never set foot in Southlake, TX ever again, it won't be soon enough. lol

I believe Paul Kantner was one of the authors of Wooden Ships, along with David Crosby and Steve Stills. I always enjoyed hearing the JA take on the song since I heard the CSN version all the time.

In hindsight, 100%, 1:1.

With foresight, it depends how far back you go to take your view. Say a year ago, each likely had a life expectancy of 20 years or less, so the worst case is 1:7200 or so.

Died the same day as Paul Kantner, what are the odds?

About the same as Thomas Jefferson and John Adams passing away on the same day.

wiki says, “You are correct!”

Kantner is indeed a co-author along with Crosby and Sills.

Both bands performed Wooden Ships at Woodstock, and released it on albums that year (’69)

I LOVE that song. So sorrowful and full of power. Signe had an amazing voice but so did Grace. What are the odds of a single band finding TWO women with such powerful belting vocal abilities??

“Died the same day as Paul Kantner, what are the odds?”

The whole Rock and Roll generation is goin’ down one at a time, I tell ya!(The ones who lived past age 27, anyway.)

At least this week we won’t have to suffer through any more from the Eagles or from the marginally talented Bowie, lol.
