Buzz is growing on the ground in Iowa around Marco Rubio, who many political watchers believe is set for a stronger-than-expected showing at Mondayâs caucuses.
In interviews with The Hill, Iowa Republicans and independent analysts in the state say Rubio is primed to break free from the second tier of contenders and finally emerge as the candidate to save the establishment from Donald Trump and Ted Cruz, who are battling for the lead in Iowa.
âHe easily has the greatest upside,â said Doug Gross, who served as Iowa finance chairman for the campaigns of George W. Bush and Mitt Romney.
âMainstream Republicans are not comfortable with Trump or Cruz, and the more I hear from them, the more they say theyâve decided on Rubio. He has the greatest potential and itâs driven by pragmatism, a desire to win, and angst with the two front-runners.â
To be sure, that assumes more strength for Rubio than is currently reflected in the polls.
According to the RealClearPolitics average, the race for Iowa is a two-man contest with Trump the front-runner at 31 percent, and Cruz hanging on at 25 percent. Rubio is a distant third place at 14 percent.
However, Iowa is known for producing late-surging candidates.

Des Moines Register has been hinting since Thursday that there would be some interesting surprises in their final poll which will be released today at 5:45CST.
To get rid of Cruz, I hope Iowa gives Rubio the 2nd place. We can take care of Rubio later. I hope it is
Trump - 1st
Rubio - 2nd
Carson - 3rd
Paul - 4th
Cruz - 5th
I am hoping my prediction happens.
How big is La Raza's office in Des Moines, Mariner?
I still think Cruz, Rubio, and Trump will be the top three—in what order, and with what percentages, is hard to say. I do see Rubio as being on the rise.
So the expectations game. If Rubio comes in third, he is the formidable challenger who beat the formiddable Bush and formiddable others in the bottom tier. I like Rubio. But he should try again in 8 years like Santorum and Huckabee, probably with the same results.
I want my fantasy to become reality, so there. The more delusional you are, the better.
you know what, naps, i hope Rubio end up beating the !#$ oput of Trump just to @#$ you cruz haters over.
hell, i might just vote for rubio in NY
you know, the place with the bad values where your lover comes from :)
The only “buzz” that is building for Rubio is from the media and the GOPe.
The Ministry Of Propaganda is trying to create some fictional movement to Rubio.
The Cheap Labor Express still expects the RNC to deliver an amnesty candidate.
Rubio has been a disappointment to me. He has what it takes to get elected but not what it takes to govern. His record and his policy statements are too far to the left and he doesn’t seem to bring any fresh new perspective to policy. His policy statements are reflexive. I don’t get the impression that he thinks things thru before opening his mouth.
It's all intangible crap like "there's a sense", and "trust us, he's totally surging guys."
Maybe the DMR poll will back it up, if not, this is all complete B.S.
Time for the Rube to surge as per Faux, NY Slimes, Compost and other Open Border Thugs!
This country will not survive with an amnesty pimp in charge. Rubio cannot be permitted to win.
The media sets whatever ‘expectations’ it wants so it can say ‘whomever’ it wants did great.
And whomever it doesn’t want did badly.
What a joke on the people.
oh its the gop elite again trying to push who they wantg..when are they ever going to learn
The Tea Party traitor Rubio will be crushed like a cockroach in the south, even if, by some miracle, he finishes second in the Iowa caucus.
