Environmentalists and public employee unions say a lack of money was behind Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) poor response to lead contamination in the Flint, Mich. water supply.
"What most people don't understand is that nearly half of EPA's budget goes to states, tribal authorities, and municipalities, and of the remaining half, almost half of that goes to contractors," John O'Grady, president of the American Federation of Government Employees chapter representing EPA employees involved in Flint, told The Washington Post Thursday. "U.S. EPA does not have the sufficient capacity to assist. So, issues such as the one which occurred in Flint, Mich. happen due, in part, to minimal federal oversight and enforcement."

I am with you. Defund the EPA.
Yeah, Mr. O’Grady? How much of that budget flows into YOUR pocket?
Yeah, Mr. O’Grady? The money goes to the states? Where does it come from?
So if we gave the EPA more money, this would have prevented the criminal activitiy attempting to cover up what was happening in Flint? Makes sense to me.
I heard a news clip on the radio yesterday - Gov Snyder signed a law that gives $20 million to Flint for the crisis...
It covered bottled water, medical care, nurses, ....
They didn’t mention ANYTHING about fixing or replacing the water mains..
Sheesh...
LOL! Uncle berinie’s “free tree” of course.
CUT EPA Funding by 90% so they’re forced to focus on basic mission.
Overturn ALL regulations written in the last 10 years.
One very big reason Rome fell was lead pipes (research "lead pipes and Ancient Rome"). My point is if the EPA had been doing its job, money would've been spent on infrastructure.
Now we've got pipes all over the US that are obsolete and cause disease and an invasion that is bringing in a disease that makes babies brains smaller. And people with less intellectual skills than needed to manage a complex society.
Brilliant.
The EPA did so well with the Colorado mines.
Filed under “never let a crisis go to waste.”
If they have no money, where did they find the money to cover it up?
Overturn ALL regulations written in the last 10 years.
The EPA was proposed by President Richard Nixon and began operation on December 2, 1970, after Nixon signed an executive order. The order establishing the EPA was ratified by committee hearings in the House and Senate.
We got along just fine without an E.P.A. for 200 years. The republican president should shut it down completely, early in 2017. All they do is spend tons of money and do all they can to interfere with commerce. The whole outfit is redundant.
We had rivers on fire and billowing industrial smoke stacks in the 70’s.
Initially it did help.
Then it became an empire building scheme with extreme gov’t overreach.
Never letting a good crisis go to waste, the bureaucrats will use Flint to further strangle the free market with more arbitrary regulation.
The first step in resolving this is to put all public officials who knew of the problem on trial.
The step to prevent leeching of lead into the water from the pipes, adding a chemical buffering agent to shift the pH of the water, was not done with the water drawn from the river.
Same pipes, but not water from the Detroit district, water sourced from the river. Problem came about after changing the water source-— no problem of lead contamination until then.
This situation is insane.
The problem originated within the water district mis-management serving Flint. Clean house locally to fix the problem.
At least 13 fires have been reported on the Cuyahoga River, the first occurring in 1868.[14] The largest river fire in 1952 caused over $1 million in damage to boats, a bridge, and a riverfront office building.[dead link][15] On June 22, 1969, a river fire captured the attention of Time

I witnessed the one in ‘69, which was just the thing Nixon needed to “Executive Order a massive new bureaucracy.
