Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee says primary rival Ted Cruz cannot be trusted to be a conservative leader in the White House, accusing the Texas senator of flip-flopping on several issues.
"Ted Cruz has changed his positions on ethanol, immigration, H-1B visas," Huckabee said Friday on CNN's "New Day."
"He's changed it on whether marriage is a state or a federal issue. He's changed it on whether he's going to be a real champion for religious liberty or whether that's going to be way down the road and it's not important," he added.
The former Arkansas governor said voters shouldn't trust candidates who repeatedly change their stances based on what's popular. He had previously accused Cruz of hypocrisy for campaigning at the New York penthouse of two gay businessmen, despite his staunch opposition to gay marriage.
"When people change their views depending on geography of where they happen to be, if they say one thing in Manhattan and another thing in Marshalltown, Iowa, that's when you start wondering whether you can trust them," Huckabee said Friday.
After the GOP primary undercard debate on Thursday night, Huckabee attended an event hosted by Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump.
"Huckabee: Ted Cruz changed positions on many policies"
A broken clock. Huckabee between going to trump event and telling the truth about Cruz has really been good lately.
I think he can be trusted to not release murderers on their word that they are changed men.
Huck is right .
Progressives always have each others’ backs.
Didn’t the Huckster stab Romney in the back in 2008 to give us McCain? Yeah, he’s trustworthy.
Huck’s a POS.
Trump the clinton donor can’t be trusted. But since the huckster is wanting to be his vp then huckster is being a huckster
The irony is the huckster supporting a pro-gay marriage pro-abortion Trump who’s spent years defending abortion and gay marriage.
Huck loves power over principle
I don’t trust Trump or his Malcolm X worshipping, “there’s no such thing as a Christian” spokeswoman.
Cruz can’t be trusted? Tell me huckleberry, how many bogus medical cures has Cruz shilled? Is helping to rip off desperate people, like you have, the kind of trust you’re talking about?
Not you Red Steel, the huckster.
The Huckster jumps on the Trump Express. Look at me! .... and I can play a guitar!
Says the man nobody on FreeRepublic trusts.
Huck does have a few brand new fans here.
This is rich coming from Elmer Gantry.
Praise the Lord, and pass the biscuits!
There are a few issues that all must be decided correctly for America to survive as a free country. Both Trump and Cruz are close enough on those critical issues - I disagree with each of them in minor ways on the big issues and even more on side issues, but none of those disagreements is disqualifying.
Ethanol is not one of the critical issues, and I don’t care what position(s) Cruz takes on that question beyond that he not change his position too many times. I’m okay with him deciding to oppose ethanol requirements, since he was right, and I’m okay with him deciding that is not practical politically, since that may also be correct. Ethanol in our gasoline, or not, will not destroy our country.
Immigration is one of the critical issues, and the minor changes in Cruz’s position are all within the acceptable range. I like his opposition to letting illegals stay and to letting them return once they are deported, and that is more important than the few details that have changed or differ from my views.
H-1B visas are a complex issue, and nothing Cruz has said on that question is disqualifying. I’d like to see no illegals at all. If that happens, we may (maybe) need more H1B visas to meet employment needs in critical areas, or maybe not. Again, the difference between what Cruz wants and what I want for protecting American jobs is not a decisive issue.
Whether marriage is a state or a federal issue is somewhat important. It’s clearly a state issue, and the Supremes were shockingly wrong when they chose to intervene and require sensible states to permit fake “marriages”. The exception is the “full faith and credit” clause, but that one constitutional clause seems to me to require sensible states to treat anything that liberal states call “marriage” the same as they treat real marriages.
Cruz campaigning at the penthouse of two gay businessmen does not bother me at all. If he can get more votes by appealing to their friends, I approve.
As for Huckabee, I suspect his objections are based more on Cruz beating him than anything else. Sorry, but Huckabee, like Santorum and Paul, doesn’t appeal to enough voters to be a serious contender even when he gets a lot of attention.
entirely too much hate speech from all sides of the GOP.....we will regret this later.
