Ted Cruz’s Negative Ads Go After Marco Rubio, Rather Than Donald Trump (Cruz fights for 2nd)
NY Times ^

Senator Ted Cruz, scrambling to put down a growing threat in Iowa from Senator Marco Rubio, is shifting nearly all of his negative advertising from Donald J. Trump to Mr. Rubio for the final three days of the caucuses.

Mr. Cruz intends to direct his firepower at his Senate colleague after days of seeing Mr. Rubio inch up both in public polling and his own private surveys, according to two advisers to Mr. Cruz who spoke on the condition of anonymity. After leading in the polls in Iowa for much of the last month, Mr. Cruz has slipped into second behind Mr. Trump in most public surveys.

The change of direction marks an abrupt shift, reflecting how volatile the race in Iowa remains: Mr. Cruz's campaign only began airing negative spots against Mr. Trump this week and just put their first attack ad up against Mr. Rubio on Thursday on Iowa television.

Cruz has taken down all his negative Trump advertising and replacing them with negative Rubio ads. He wouldn't be doing this unless he knows Iowa is lost and he is now fighting to keep second against a surging Rubio. Cruz finishing 3rd would kill his campaign.

Rubio is a snake. He stood there last night, right in front of the American people, and lied about Cruz then latter states he’s a Christian.

Cruz, after his debate performance last night, has a lot to be worried
about. Trump being the least of his worries.
Cruz was roughed up pretty good last night.

It started yesterday, which Rubio in teens in Iowa, and CNN saying Rubio's internals have him at 20% in Iowa
The media predictably declared him the debate winner, including Luntz
Rubio will finish second in Iowa, and the media will all say he won because it was a 'surprise'

The desperate establishment has one final Rubio push in them, it's looking like.

Now, Cruz realized that he made a career destroying move by hitting Trump.
Cruz should fire his Campaign manager Rick.

I guess you are not privy to Cruz PAC and totally outside PACs ads.
They are slamming The One.

What are the Cruz people going to do when he finishes 3rd in Iowa and this becomes a 2 man Trump / Rubio race? Is the hate for Trump so strong they will support Rubio?

Super PACs pay ad rates 5-10x what candidates pay. There is about a $2 Million ad buy of anti-Trump ads in Iowa but that doesn’t buy very much in the last week of a campaign. It’s about 30% of the ads Trump is running attacking Cruz.

“The media predictably declared him the debate winner, including Luntz”

Yeah, and Chris “The Carp” Wallace was spewing the same crap early this AM along with more BS about how “75% of Iowans haven’t made up their minds.” Fox turns out to be just another RAT criminal enterprise! Watch their ratings go into the crapper now that they have “outed” themselves. They are dead to me.

Cruz is obviously going after an adult who was at the debate. He has no need to go the playground and exchange insults with arrogant children.

Cruz is smart to stop his attacks on Trump and focus on Rubio.

IIRC, Cruz was advised by his staff NOT to go after Trump in the last (NY Values) debate...

All three could end up in the 20s, with a possible range of 15-35%. I do think Rubio is moving up. Cruz did OK last night but not great. Trump hurt himself by his no-show. Three tickets out of Iowa, and all three will be moving on.

If this ever does become a Trump/Rubio two-man race, I’ll have to get behind Rubio as the lesser of two evils. So I guess the answer to your question is ‘yes’, but its not hate, it’s discernment. We can see Trump for what he is: empty celebrity - he’s the Kardashian Kandidate.

We need the closest thing to a Conservative that we can get. That’s Ted Cruz by heads and shoulders, but if Trump can mobilize the LIVs to the extent he says he can, then we need a fallback or November doesn’t really make a difference.

Yep. I still think Iowa comes out Trump-Rubio-Cruz. Three days is a long time, and Trump is going to be in towm, and his ground game might be more powerful than his opponents thought.

Their hate for Trump is so strong I think they’ll vote for Hillary.

Seriously... I’ve asked a couple of them this very question (”What happens if your boy LOSES?”). No one answers.

No, Cruz takes votes from Rubio, Bush, Kasich, Christie, Fiorina, Huckster, Paul, etc. to beat Trump.

Duh.

Trump voters are a pretty hard core bunch. Look around FR.

But the others? Totally winnable.
