Fourth Turning: Crisis of Trust (Is Trump the Grey Champion)
The Burning Platform ^ | 1997-2015

Posted on 01/27/2016 9:56:08 PM PST by 11th_VA

... The world is becoming increasingly chaotic and the American people are seeking a leader who can bring order, make tough decisions, and capture the zeitgeist of this moment in history. They are in search of a prophet generation (Boomer) Grey Champion, whose arrival marks the moment of darkness, adversity and peril as the Fourth Turning careens towards its climax.

The Grey Champion doesn't necessarily have to be a good person, but they must lead and display tremendous confidence in their cause and path. Franklin, Lincoln, and FDR have many detractors, but during their Fourth Turnings, they most certainly led, casting aside obstacles (sometimes illegally) and enduring dark days and bleak prospects for success.

Is there someone of that stature ready to lead the American people now?

**Snip**

"Soon after the catalyst, a national election will produce a sweeping political realignment, as one faction or coalition capitalizes on a new public demand for decisive action. Republicans, Democrats, or perhaps a new party will decisively win the long partisan tug of war. This new regime will enthrone itself for the duration of the Crisis. Regardless of its ideology, that new leadership will assert public authority and demand private sacrifice. Where leaders had once been inclined to alleviate societal pressures, they will now aggravate them to command the nation's attention. The regeneracy will be solidly under way." -The Fourth Turning - Strauss & Howe -1997

Gee, that is not very encouraging. Maybe if we resist the zeitgeist instead of “capturing” it? That is worth “sacrifice.”

You know, I have the book and I liked the concept but it just wore me down to slog through what seemed to be never ending repetition. Maybe I should give it a fresh look as I thing the basic concept is quite valid. That’s why many of the comparisons to Reagan don’t hold true today - it is a different generation with different needs.

There is something in the book about the young generation of that time - say 20 years old in 1997. Talked about how they were the same “generation” as the “Greatest Generation” of WWII. And - if given some conflict to fight against they would rise up and be great against that. Or - they would use their ambitions to create their own power and wealth.

Then - 9/11 happened. I had great hopes for our country. While many of that generation DID drop what they were doing and join the fight against the muslims, most stayed self-focused.

I might need to review the book for any clues to what is ahead.

This sounds like obama. The linked thread in my tagline is a booklet written in 1939 about FDR called “The Revolution Was” and all about FDR, the New Deal, etc. Obama fits it to a “T”.

The snippet could just as easily refer to Barack Hussein Obama...

I didn’t know Trump played Canadian football? But it’s pretty impressive if he can win the championship.

Try Xenakis’ “Generational Dynamics” blog. Slimmed-down on the theory, and applied to daily news items.

Nice group photo of Obama’s coronation. Wrong end of the horse, though.

That's because KGB Active Measures, during Vietnam, managed to impose a negative lesson on US leadership, that they could not/cannot rely on the American population to sustain a protracted war, especially one prosecuted with a conscript army. That was why Nixon implemented the voluntary-military paradigm, which was what left most of American youth of military age at home during Iraq and Afghanistan.

You got it wrong... That is the OTHER wannabe dictator, the Trojan horse “conservative” (who has been liberal all his life up to a couple of hours after BJ Clinton’s phone call), Donald “Duck” Trump.
