Trump doesn't portray himself as much of a Christian.
No, not at all.
“Keep talking Ted Cruz, your true colors are showing... and they aren’t Christian colors....”
You are so right.
Donald Trump is so Christian he is almost a Biblical Patriarch.
He’s got three children from his first wife, one from his concubine (whom he later married), the lovely Tiffany Trump, and a youngest from his third wife.
It’s awesome. Just like the Bible.
Fifty. State. Sweep. !!!!
Look as if Ted Cruz had Trump on the brain and misspoke, or the reporter had Trump on the brain and misquoted. Or maybe YHWH was sending Ted a message: Don’t be afraid of boasting about someone. ;-)
2 Corinthians 7
14 For if in anything I have boasted to him about you, I am not ashamed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, even so our boasting to Titus was found true.
Nelson, Thomas (2009-02-18). Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV) (p. 1124). Thomas Nelson. Kindle Edition.
2 Chronicles 7
12 Then the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for Myself as a house of sacrifice.
13 “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people,
14 “if My people who are â called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
15 “Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.
16 “For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.
Nelson, Thomas (2009-02-18). Holy Bible, New King James Version (NKJV) (p. 427). Thomas Nelson. Kindle Edition.
I was hoping that somebody would come up with good bunch line and rim shot (bada bing) by now.
“For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.”
Trump is very telling in his religious affiliation. He claims to be Presbyterian. But there are TWO branches. The larger of the two is Presbyterian USA. This is the group of liberals who advocate for gay marriage, they ordain gays, they are totally IN for gun control and they refuse to say the Bible is the word of God.
OTOH, there is the Presbyterian Church in America PCA and they deliberately broke away from the larger group of liberals to declare themselves more fundamentalist and breaking away from politics. I'm pretty certain The Donald isn't a follower of Christ via the PCA. I am though.
Christians are taught not to boast of what they give. But there are many stories on the net of very generous things Mr. Trump has done, and many are things we will never know about. But God knows.
True - but then why were so many Trump supporters jumping all over Cruz over what they thought he might or might not have given to his church, with no facts to support it?
Trump should stick to the Christianity that he knows, like the part where you get to get married three times and still pretend you’re deeply committed to Christian theology. And the third one was a nude model, which is not generally thought of as following the teachings of Jesus Christ. But hey, once people like Trump become the preachers they can make up any situational stuff they like. He’s not vulnerable on this subject. Even many conservatives today don’t care about living a chaste life. They see nothing wrong or odd about Trump talking about having sex with his daughter. They see nothing wrong with Trump defending Clinton over perjury, obstruction of justice, and sexual harassment. Machiavelli meets New York values in the Trump worldview, which suits those who care not about what Trump will do or what he’s done as long he wins.
And the sleepy guy ine th back of the room blurts out “Qualudes?”
Not remotely.
Cruz’s joke is about Trump messing up the reference to a Christian book called “Second Corinthians”

Trump blamed Tony Perkens for the mistake:

Who died and made you Saint Peter? Most Northeast mainstream Christian denominationists have been encultured not to show their religious feelings openly, especially if one lives in a multicultural or urban area as does Mr. Trump. It's something we've been struggling with in our denomination -- the polite, nice Christians who show no passion outwardly and are quiet as mice in church. Try not to judge another Christian, as we are instructed not to.
As for laughing at a show of self-consciousness over reading scripture, I pity you. If there's anything you can count on with The Donald, he doesn't read from a teleprompter, rehearse in front of a mirror, read from notes or sound like a high school debate team orator. He speaks from the heart, from a few bullet points scribbled on the back of an envelope in Sharpie.
For sake of a better word, I used ‘sin’ as what I consider it when someone like Cruz speaks as often and passionately as he does and then gives almost nothing to the church. You may have a different opinion (I generally like and respect Cruz) but it certainly doesn’t make me trust him like I would if I saw that he and his Goldman Sachs VP wife gave generously to their church.
Before everyone goes too “they are bashing my candidate on this”:
Cruz tells jokes.
Trump tells jokes.
Both are actually pretty funny guys.
Lighten up.
He's living rent-free in the heads of most Cruzers on FR, that's for sure.
Why? Donald goes to Church and has for quite some time. It may not be every Sunday, I don’t know, but he was doing an interview many years ago and his family was calling to make sure he would not miss service. Seems hypocritical of Freepers to make fun of someone’s faith.
Unfortunately for Ted, that is precisely what his whole schtick comes off as.
You are correct; that is in poor taste and even as a Trump supporter, I don't support that.

Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz joked Monday about rival Donald Trump’s flub of a Bible verse.
While on the campaign trail in Iowa, Cruz began referencing the biblical verse 2 Chronicles 7:14 (”Second Chronicles”) before he was interrupted by someone in the crowd at the town hall who joked he meant “Two Chronicles.”
“Well, you know, two Corinthians walk into a bar...” the Texas senator quipped.
