Four of Americaâs wealthiest businessmen laid the foundation for Ted Cruzâs now-surging Republican presidential campaign and have redefined the role of political donors.
With just over a week until voters get their first say, the 45-year-old Texas senator known as a conservative warrior has been ascendant. The $36 million committed last year by these donor families is now going toward television, radio and online advertisements, along with direct mailings and get-out-the-vote efforts in early primary states.
The donorsâ super political action committees sponsored rallies Saturday in Iowa featuring Cruz and conservative personality Glenn Beck. The state holds the leadoff caucuses on Feb. 1.

Billionaires?
We definitely don’t need any billionaires involved on politics.
Er, .. Wait..
Um..
So only billionaires who self-finance should run for President?
All money is dirty. The gubmint should keep it all cause we kin trust em.
So? It’s not like Trump isn’t relying on a billionaire donor, amiright?
Money is not dirty. The people who do the deals may or may not be. To me it’s like guns.
Simply having money does not get you elected.
In fact, Trump has spent less money so far than any other major candidate. If anything, he's driving the cost of running for president down. And the wealthy donors who are funding their puppet candidates don't like it one bit.
Whether we need them or not, the candidates, should they win, will answer to the billionaire(s) who provided the money for their campaigns.

Darn straight!
And billionaires will not be for the rest of us.
Next thing we know is that Jeb will start attacking billionaires:-)
Do you think there is something wrong about that or do you think that only people who are wealthy enough to not have to seek donations from others should be running for President?
Interesting that one of these guys moved himself and family to Puerto Rico, to learn Spanish, become more worldly and enjoy tax breaks. :) That would be Neugebauer.

Er, .. Wait..
Um..
Lol
awesome. we need billionaires supporting conservative candidates.
As for billionaires funding other candidates, that's going to happen no matter what. There will always be ways around campaign finance laws. It is refreshing to have a candidate who will self-fund and therefore not be "in the pocket" of those donors. But he still has to get elected and that's not a given yet.
It wasn’t a contention. Did you see the question mark at the end of the sentence?

Billionaires supporting a candidate, oh my goodness, that’s never happened in history before
Can someone explain to me how this is NOT coordination between the PAC and the Cruz Campaign?
I have given up on figuring that one out. I assume they all coordinate and just have to meet in some dive bar and talk with their hands over their mouths, mafia style, so no one can get recordings and rat them out to the FEC.
It depends. I s a quid pro quo expected for the money spent or do the contributors simply think that Cruz’s policies will benefit everyone? I believe that it is more of a rising tide that lifts all boats.
