But he thinks Trump is the most likely to win.
So, he supports both for different reasons. He’d rather have a beer and golf with Donald, but he rather have a political discussion with Cruz.

They’re using reverse psychology to stampede people the other direction to Ted Cruz. Ted Cruz has been used to infiltrate the conservative movement on behalf of his and his wife’s sponsors, who are also the same people who for decades have tried and failed to remove the natural born citizen clause from the Constitution with an Amendment to the Constitution, passed an unconstitutional alteration of the immigration and naturalization act, brokered the agreement between Obama and McCain to not pursue their mutual natural born citizen ineligibility; and those people in turn have affiliations to the Skull and Crossbones, CFR, and so forth. These hidden power brokers are still working hard to fix this election so the voters will only be able to choose between only those candidates approved by them to a greater or lesser degree. Ted Cruz is obviously ineligible and compromised by his citizenship status and by his past legislative and administrative actions. Trump has his own issues, which still remain to be settled. The other candidates are not in a position to defeat Trump and Cruz or the DNC candidate. This leaves responsible voters virtually no fully uncompromised alternatives capable of defeating the DNC candidate, and perhaps only one compromised candidate who can do so.
Senator Cruz represents everything I want as President of our great country. I pray he will become President. Senator Ted Cruz all the way to the Oval Office.

I called Trump a populist about 30 seconds after his announcement. With a populist there are always things they say that we can readily agree with, things we have longed to hear someone say for a long time. The populist then convinces that he is the only person on earth able or willing to get these things done.
The populist ever the blustering bully lauds his initial popularity and demeans any person or organization that refuses to acclaim his acumen. The one thing a populist will not give you is how things will be done. I will get a country to do something but I will tell you how I will do it.
The populist will tell you what he will do but not how he will govern; and that is dangerous.
